Fuel injector cleaner?

Post by Lion_Lady »

Okay. My Rockster Ed 80 has just shy of 58K miles on it.

Something I just noticed on the last couple of road trips: When rolling hard on the throttle - as to pass another vehicle - the engine's response is a bit less than immediate, with a noticeable 'stutter' thrown in as well. The bike does get up to needed speed, just not with the expected/former pep. The bike runs fine otherwise. Idle, etc no problems.

I figure the first remedy is probably to run some fuel injector cleaner through. Is any one brand better than another? To be honest, I don't even know what to ask (or look) for. Are there any other things that should be checked?

Techron is the absolute best, and priced accordingly.

Seafoam is almost as good, and relatively inexpensive, and more widely used by motorcyclists.

Almost any will work, and one should be used...

Techron has two variants, the regular and the concentrated......use the latter as per the instructions. Also, consider getting the revs up into the happy zone (5000+) every so often, in the lower gears preferably.

:doubt: always had trouble with "latter" and "former." So, to clarify: I should look for the REGULAR Techron?
"Happy Zone" got that part.

Thanks!

You were a former student, now you are a latter day rider.
He was recommending the concentrated version.
Either will work well, get what you can find, if both are there, take the concentrated one...

Well. Made an 8 pm run to the local auto stuff store and found Techron concentrate... the weather was SUPPOSED to be decent today (at least it was yesterday MORNING). Of course, since I was all ready to ride to work, today, it was POURING when I was ready to head out. Grrr.

Hi LL, how did the Techron work out, whilst the Rockster is out of commission pending diagnosis and repair this weekend :x , I thought I'd revert to old-faithful - my Honda Hornet, however she still has that glitch, she doesn't idle without the choke :-X , she has a carburetor of course and I was wondering if perhaps the Techron stuff could 'ungunk' her! I pulled a dumb one and winterized her without Stay-bill #-o - never again...

Put some new fuel and Techron concentrate, go for an extended ride, an hour or so, it should be OK by then, unless the carbs are really gummed-up.
