Mirrors...
I'd like to install the more sporty, oval mirrors from a K bike on the Rockster. I see that the small plastic adapter under the left mirror blocks the movement of the "choke" lever. Has anyone done this and/or is there a seprate adapter meant for these mirrors on this bike. I've seen these BMW mirrors on Rocksters before (pics only), so I think it's doable.... Any info would be much appreciated - Thanks!

Re: Mirrors...
Folks around here buy the K-bike RS mirrors (forget the model number). The next step is to take the left one and "dry fit" it on the handlebar area, getting an idea of how much "meat" has to be taken out for the High Idle lever to work properly. Silver magic marker or some such is used to mark off the general area. Now it's Dremel Time, using a little rotary tool to chew off part of the collar so the Idle lever can move to it's cold start position. That's hearsay on my part because...
Or, you can do what I did: wait until someone sells their bike and then divorces themselves of that particular farkle on this board.
If you need to see what that looks like let me know, I can take a picture of the mirrors I have.

Re: Mirrors...
I did mine a few years ago, just like Herr Slater stated. Kind of dry fit it loose, got out a sharpie, every garage should have a box, and marked the front, back, and side. Proceeded to take off material a little at a time, go conservative at this point, and once I could get the "choke" lever the whole way up, just trimmed the cutout area a little to make it look factory. This sort of thing is easy for me, as I do engineering, cutting and fitting for a living. But it is easy. Just use the K1200RS mirrors, but be sure to get the correct years, I think they changed at some point. I got mine from Fleabay, call Beamer Boneyard and ask, but you will pay a bit, because this is a pretty normal mod, and the mirrors are in demand. Good luck, any help I can be, let me know. And, you can just use the screws that came with the Mickey Mouse Ears, the factory "R" mirrors.
Re: Mirrors...
Thanks for the advise - I figured on doing the same thing as described - I wanted to see if anyone had a better idea or if there was a specific part I could simply order for that left mirror... I'm off to the garage to do some trimming.

Re: Mirrors...
Had K1200RS mirrors on my Rockster since day of purchase. The mirrors don't require modification for throttle advance/choke clearance if you don't want to:
There's a metal piece that slides within the left switch housing to actuate the cable-pull for throttle advance... the external plastic lever attaches to that metal piece via a small tab. Well, that metal piece bends enough as the choke lever contacts the K1200RS mirror base to allow for cold starts. I've been doing this on the Rockster for 4 years.
We also had K1200RS mirrors on our Roadster. I tried a different solution to the "lever/mirror contact" problem, disassembling the throttle advance slider and inserting a new metal piece that I'd bent into shape to clear the K-mirror base. Worked fine, but not worth the effort.

Re: Mirrors...
Has anyone ever looked into these mirrors:

For that price I'm wondering how cheap they are, in regards to quality. But I don't like the fact that I would have to do "trimming" more than likely to fit the K1200 mirrors... but can't stand the stock Mickey Mouse ears.

Re: Mirrors...
Let me say it again: it is not necessary to hack at the K1200RS mirror stem in order to use on R1150R. No, the fit isn't perfect, and the throttle advance does contact the K1200RS mirror mount, but you can still get required "choke" action and (so far) the mechanism hasn't broken. But I don't like the fact that I would have to do "trimming" more than likely to fit the K1200 mirrors

Yeah, I had to re-read your post to fully understand what you were saying. But unless I can find a good used pair of K1200RS mirrors for cheap I think I'm going to have to go with plan B. Wait... I just realized there is no plan B!
