I'm going to look at this bike this week (finally) and had a thought... I know CarFax keeps some motorcycles on record and was wondering if anyone on here had a membership w/ them and could run the VIN for me? It's no big deal really but I'm just curious. Please PM me for the VIN if you can and will do this for me.

I just bought the rockster for $4900. It needs a few minor things replaced and the throttle bodies need to be synchronized because it feels like they aren't firing at exactly the same time. But my main complaint is the way it is geared... 1st is extremely high, meaning just to get rolling I have to rev it up and slowly slip the clutch. Is this normal? I'm assuming this is how BMW geared the Rockster but it seems odd to me and my dad both (he is usd to riding older R bikes like the 90 and 1000) and will take some getting used to. Also, I was riding in Fort Worth on 287 South where most people do about 80, but the speedometer said 90 and some people were still creeping past. What could cause the speedometer to be off so? And yes, it does have standard sized tires.

Congratulations on the new bike.

1st gear does require some throttle input when accelerating from dead stop.

Grab a GPS to confirm the speedometer's output versus actual speed. Yes, the BMW speedo overstates velocity by 6-8%.

Well, I'm still trying to learn all about my new R1150R Rockster. I like to be as familiar as possible with my bikes (for obvious reasons), but this is SO different than my old K75 that I used to have. I was told that when the front brake was applied on this bike it actually engages both front and rear brakes. Is this true? :-k

Also, does anyone know where I can get a new spark plug cover for the right cylinder head? When the previous owner dropped it one of the tabs to the spark plug cover broke so it is not secure as I would like it to be... But everywhere I have looked online only sells the silver ones.

I also need rear BMW emblems and red reflectors for both hard cases, but those seem to be the same price everywhere I look. And I didn't notice until after I made the drive to look at the bike that the left and right side stickers were missing that run on the pieces underneath the seat, and they are $65 A PIECE! THAT'S CRAZY! So I guess I'll just go without them... even though I think it looks better with them on.

If you have ABS, yes, the front lever engages both front and rear. The rear lever, however, only engages the rear - what they call "partial integration".

Beemerboneyard.com sells used BMW parts, so they may have what you're looking for. Also troll ebay from time to time.

Good luck, hope you can get used to the Rockster. That is a big change from a K75.

Thanks for the info! And yes, it is a big change from the K75. But it was years ago when I had my good ol' K bike. For the past few years I've had a '07 Yamaha FZ6 w/ GIVI V35 side cases and V46 top case. Of course I have it up for sale now to help fund the Rockster... However, what I will miss most about the FZ6 is the ability to keep my helmet in the trunk case which I cannot do right now on the Rockster :( ...But the new BMW's pro's outweigh those of the Yamaha. 8)

Well, xdot must have passed on the Alabama bike because it's happily sitting re-homed in my garage. It's my return to BMW's after 8+ years of riding Italian and Austrian hardware after I sold my R1150GS. The e80 will be happily parked with the Austrian bike acting as a buffer between it and the Italian bikes. I did a full fluid change, new filters, reset all the valves and re-sychned the TB's (still have all the tools) and now I'm looking forward to many miles of service and smiles.
