Clutch relining source

Post by macx »

Hi

I don't really belong here, I've got an r1150r, but thought you folks may also be able
to benefit from this info.

Have mine apart to check & lube trans input & clutch splines and found my clutch
disc very close to gone at only 32k.

Researched extensively, looked at other options, here's the best deal I could find
for my 165mm dia clutch disc.

Contacted several outfits I uncovered during a search, with no response.

However, followed up on a link I found in a post listed on the search result.

They don't say anything about motorcycle clutch relining on their website

Real nice guy to deal with.

He said they reline quite a few RT-P bikes. (mentioned having relined
200+ for the Las Vegas police) When I asked what they use,
assuming it was a more durable clutch, he said they use either ceramic or
metallic linings, but cautioned that those are much harder on the pressure
plate surfaces. He said some lasted well, some didn't. I would imagine it
would depend a lot on the individual rider. I didn't think it wise to trade a
little extra clutch life for having to replace the much more expensive
pressure plate replacement sooner at the least.

He did say they have a more durable organic lining he could put on.

He said he could turn mine around in 1 day from when he gets it.
Price was reasonable at $95.00.
It's going out on express mail in the morning.
I'll put pics on Photobucket when I get it and post a link.
