Re: Nice Saturday Ride to North Georgia
Sweet.
What's the mean distance between bbq joints in that part of GA?
Almost seems worth the trip from NY for the food alone, as I recall from my Navy days.
How high is the speed limit on those nice roads?
DLS

Great slide show of a beautiful area. I'm looking forward to the GR so I can finally explore some more of your great roads and scenery.

Re: Nice Saturday Ride to North Georgia
Just about any road in north Georgia is a good road to ride. If you have limited time, however, here is a must-do loop.
Take 76 east, TR onto 17/75 then right onto 180 past Brasstown Bald over to US 129. Left on 129 then back right onto 180 again all the way to 60 where Suches and T.W.O. is located. Take a breather at T.W.O. for some good ole Georgia sweet tea, then head north on 60 to Margret (a spot in the road) turn around and go back down 60 to US 19/9 and turn left back to US 129. Go north on 129 all the way to Blairsville. Hang a right and you'll be back at Hiawassee pretty quick.
The photos I used for the slideshow are deceiving. I used my artistic license to plug in two photos of us riding the BRP a year or so ago. I did this for continuity. But our roads here are almost as nice as the Parkway.
The Georgia Mountain Rally has a new venue this year and its shaping up to be a really nice change from the traditional Bald Mtn Park location. The Hiawassee Georgia Mtn Fairgrounds and Music Hall is very nice on the beautiful Lake Chatuge as you can see in my slides near the boatramp there.

Re: Nice Saturday Ride to North Georgia
Thanks for the info. I live just a few minutes from the Parkway and can't get enough of our regions beautiful mountain roads. I'll be heading down Friday afternoon, rain or shine, just hope any severe weather is limited.
Safe travels.

That musical slideshow thing is great. Beautiful photos.
I kick myself for not owning a bike during grad school in Atlanta. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
