Going to Atlanta GA Cycle World M/C Show Jan 18, 19 or 20 ??

Post by CycleRob »

I am.
http://www.motorcycleshows.com/motorcyc ... ?id=359197

Which day depends on the weather so I can make the 65 minute trip. Normally the daytime winter temp is 54F (12.2C) so it's do-able, but not if it rains.

Anybody else going??

I'll be there Saturday. Going with the family to make a weekend of it. Hopefully the weather will be nice. I'd like to walk around the area and see Centennial Park, CNN Center, World of Coke Museum and so on. We'll pack all we can into one day. The plan now is to stay in Gwinnett just off I85, then drive to Chamblee station on the Northeast-South line and ride the MARTA to GWCC.

That's a good plan Brian. The parking down there will be crap, unless you ride a bike. They have a big lot out back for bikers to park free...At least I hope its free this year. It was last year.

I'm going down Saturday about 10 or 11. Hope to see y'all there.

Brian, I mailed you a few discount coupons; you should have them by Monday. Fell free to use them or give them away to anyone that can use them.

I'm going to the Washington DC show tomorrow. Our local club president got a bunch of free tickets so I'll be using one of those.

They had one there for 'trying on', but I dare not ask anything about it.

Overall, a good show. The Ball of Steel show was great - I suggest trying to watch it. Those guys are pretty good. They did jumps and other MC related tricks, with a backflip on a bike to finish it off. My daughter was amazed. I took some crappy video and pictures on my phone, and I'll see about posting them.

I'm dreaming of a:
KLR, F800__, Buell XB12s, or Ural Classic. Choices, choices...

I will be going! Like Brian, it looks like I will be staying overnight Friday and going early, leaving mid-afternoon for home.

I might have the SO along or solo, depending on what she wants to do Friday afternoon!

Forecast here is for 19 degrees overnight Friday. Not likely to be on the bike for a 4-hour ride to Atlanta in 19 degrees!

Meet up for board members and lunch? Like last year, every hour on the hour at the BMW exhibit for a meeting spot so everyone can find us?

Thanks for the tickets, John.

The BOSS shows are at 11, 2, 4, and 6:30. I'm hoping to be there early enough to catch the 11 O'clock show.

Meeting hourly at the BMW booth sounds like a good plan.

Don't forget to claim your 'free gift' from the coupons - it's a MC calendar. Too bad it opens like a book, and not a wall calendar.

Biff, the 800 GS rocks!!! I'm going to take a test ride come spring at Cliff's BMW. It does not look like a little step child of the 1200. I was talking with the bmw guys and I told them that they might lose some sales from the 1200 due to this new steed. They agreed and hoped it wouldn't be many.

If it's not buzzy at high speeds, it may find a place in my garage.

OR...if biz looks REAL good...I get the HP2 Sport and then maybe a 1200GS!!!

THAT HP2 SPORT IS HOT!!!!!!!!

hey guys!
I'm currently on a ride heading back North from key west, and am currently in the Everglades camping. ( cell service for my iPhone in the swamp, go figure) Anyway I'm considering, due to extreme weather, stopping in at the show and killing a day so as not to ride in the artic blast forcasted. Just trying to see who will be around and what not. At minimum I would like to pick up some gerbings gloves and if I could meet up with any of you it would be a bonus. Ill try and look here, or if anyone want to email me any group meeting times/places that would be cool too.
Ill be stinky, wearing a dirty black RevIt riding suit with a hiviz camelbak, If any of you see me , come say hi.
looking at the weather I'm going to be challenged just getting to Atlanta let alone chicago, but hopefully I'll see ya'll soon!

Cheers!

Hey chitown - check your email! Check in at the BMW exhibit every hour on the hour during the morning. Most of us that are going should be there by 9 or 10! I sent you my cell number.

Hope to meet you!

Damn Chitown! You're up there with Davy Crockett in my book. THE EVERGLADES!! It'll be a treat to see you at the show. Like Vann said, we will be wandering around the BMW exhibit at the top of each hour.

With this weather update I may be waiting until Sunday to go.
We're supposed to have several inches of snow tomorrow morning, switching to rain, then sunny on Sunday! :(

The weather channel forecast says rain Saturday, changing to snow late in the afternoon, with 1-3 inches. If you are traveling interstates on Sunday, you probably will be OK.

As of now, I am still going, but will probably head out after a late lunch and head up the mountain home. And I might be taking the Subaru in case we get caught in it.

I can't leave until later...maybe as late as 4pm. Had planned on taking the Mazda but may take the Pacifica. The kids will be more comfortable, and happy. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

I don't know who may be able to see this, but chances are most of you are witnessing this crap as it moves in this morning.

I can't muster up the balls to get out in it even though it may be just rain and sleet at this point with mid 30s'F temps...hovering just above freezing.

Its supposed to be sunny tomorrow but with frozen roads covered with leftover snow and ice...Maybe I can wait until later tomorrow and get down there. Sorry to have missed you guys, if I don't make it today.
