I can't wait to get down there again.
Great camping, good friends, and some of the best riding days I have ever had.

Two sites left !
Of the 10 Loop C sites that I reserved, there are two that remain unfilled. Let's get them filled before I have to give them back to the state. (See the first post in this thread.) Let's keep this beautiful campground all R1150R.net!
Boxermania, let me warn you, Hungry Mother is located in great Porsche country! (And it's close to motels and restaurants.)

I hope to be there at least a day/night with youse guys. I'm tentatively planning a four-ish day long ride with my son, to head from NoVA Norther Virginia) down the appalachain mountains eventually reaching the Robbinsville area of western North Carolina. Oh, I'll be avoiding interstate highways during this trip, and would like to see grandfather mountain and maybe do some white-water rafting too. If that falls through, then I'll be at Hungry mother for the whole weekend - especially for the Saturday night Italian dinner...

So Loop C - ten sites reserved and one at -large to be claimed later. Are we designating any sites as F800 only? Say, site 11?

I know one F800 rider that's smart enough to stay in a hotel.

I'm not anywhere near certain that I will have my F658 by then, so all is well. Whatever I bring there will fit into any camping slot.

Is there still one open site?

I think that he has some open sites. If not, we will make space.

Each site has a wooden deck for placing the tent...and there is room for two tents on the deck. You just have to convince the "owner" of the site to let you be his/her deck roomie, and then work out the payment details between you. IOW, there is room for about 20-22 campers, if everyone is "friendly". Earplugs help.

Things are shaping up!
All 10 sites are now paid. However, do not let that stop anyone from coming. As Boxer mentioned, it is very easy to put more than one tent on any of the sites; there is plenty of room. Just work it out with someone when you arrive. This has always been a fun gathering. Don't miss it!

Re: Hungry Mother (VA) - August 14-16, 2009
I've got some time off around that weekend. I am still undecided though. I am looking at 8-900 miles one-way. I would probably break the travel into two days.
Has anybody ever camped at Clifty Falls State Park in Indiana? It's right on the Ohio River near Madison, IN. Holy smokes is camping expensive there! For the price I could almost stay in a hotel. There is another park on the other side of the river in KY called General Butler State Park, but that seems like it might waste a bit of travel time. Any feedback on those two places... or other ideas to camp near the Ohio River between IN and KY?

iowa,
I will try to contact a fraternity brother of mine who lives in Madison, IN. He may know some places close by.
You could go to the casino in Rising Sun, IN. Win a bunch of money, and get your room comped.

Kirk,
Look at the map and locate the National Forest areas. Ride through them and you will see campsites or "recreation areas" at some point along the way. Take a quick turn and check it out. Many hidden/disguised camping sites that are much cheaper this way. Our GA club group camped Wednesday night at one of them for $8 a site. There were 8 of us on 3 sites. Usually not much in the way of amenities, like showers, but there's water and bathrooms and sometimes electrical.

Re: Hungry Mother (VA) - August 14-16, 2009
Good idea Phil. $8 is exactly what this cheap skate is looking for. I haven't found much on the internet so far. I'll try some online version of the official state road maps next.
The primitive camping sites at Clifty Falls are apparently closed this summer. Which means I would be forced into a $25 dollar electric site, (plus a $7 dollar gate fee for non-Indianans). The good thing about Clifty Falls is that it is directly in line with my fastest route. There are also showers there.
As long as there are showers (hot) at Hungry Mother, I certainly can do the "sponge bath" with Wet Ones on the way to and from.

I have located a suitable state forest, Clark State Forest. On I-65 in southern IN.
I will be trying to make it, unless the weather forecast is looking especially ominous. Can't wait!
