Sydney Ride - all welcome (moved from R12R Forum)
Sorry if my previous post was in the wrong location)
To all those in the Sydney AUSTRALIA area who may be interested in a ride with other BMW owners this weekend.
My wife rides an F800ST and has arranged a ride with some of the members of the F800 forum for this weekend. I thought it would be fun to join them and expand the group. F800's and R12R's fit well together. In fact any bikes are welcome.
The ride is departing from the McDonalds in Windsor on Saturday 26th at 9:30am and will be travelling up the Putty Road to Singleton and then back to Sydney via Wollombi, Buckety, Brooklyn and the Old Pacific Highway back to Hornsby.
rough Google Map route (ignore the strange detour it has added around Calga).
http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&sour ... 37157&z=13
No idea how many are looking to come - two for certain (me and my wife) but one or any number more are welcome.
If the weather is bad (wet) we will not be going but it's looking great for a run in the country if today is anything to go by.
Hope some of you are free and are interested.
Casual attitude and love of riding are the only requisites.

Re: Sydney Ride - all welcome (moved from R12R Forum)
Hi Mark,
I can't make it on Saturday due to a wedding, maybe next time. I did enjoy catching up with some of the others from here about 6 weeks ago and would be happy to do it again.
Cheers
Peter

Weather today is not so good - lots of wind and the dust is back (not as bad as earlier in the week).
Let's try for another day.

I'm up for a half-day run on Sat October 10 ... tied over the long weekend and off the the MotoGP 16-20 October.
Also up for a longer run (overnight?) in November - see some suggested routes in my Sydney rides thread ...

Saturday 10th sounds good. Half a day sounds inadequate.
So ....
How about ?
Heading north / west .... Mudgee or Oberon or Sofala seems a good destination and the half day'rs can peel off and return at their discretion.
The stayers can do the distance, the lunch and the sprint home.
Of course there are other alternatives but I just hate the first hour out of Sydney.
The most dramatic & instantaneous joy for me is north west ... unless you have a better idea.
I'm flexible but not malleable?

Re: Sydney Ride - all welcome (moved from R12R Forum)
I'm OK for an early start half (and a bit) day Saturday 10, and fine with a northwest start.
Can I suggest we meet early (despite daylight saving) for an 8:30am get away from the McGrath's Hill Maccas
- we can bolt through to Denman for a 11-ish coffee / early lunch
- stayers can do Sandy Hollow - Bylong- Rhylstone (more coffee) and Bells Line
- bolters can zip back via Wollombi
Short run: 405km round trip Windsor - Berowra, plus commute (~500km day)
Long run: 510km round trip Windsor - Richmond, plus commute (~625 km day)
The shorter alternative would be to take a coffee at Broke to shrink the half-day run to 285km Windsor to Berowra (~375 day), adds about 30km to the long-day run (~650km day)

Bother - have a b*ggered left elbow I need to be in OK condition for the Moto GP run (more particularly the return over Omeo / Falls Creek).
Hopefully will still see you at McGraths Hill but if I'm not there by 8:30am, don't wait

Re: Sydney Ride - Alert
Anything that takes in roads leading to Bathurst (including Bells line, Lithgow etc) could have more than usual traffic and police this weekend.
Just a reminder as the Bathurst V8 races are on this weekend.
I have generally seen many more unmarked police cars recently and also spoken to some guys I know who say they will be out in high numbers this weekend so we need to be vigilant.

Re: Sydney Ride - all welcome (moved from R12R Forum)
Yup the garden is singin in the rain - therefore, I'm not. All power to the flower though!
This rain won't clear tomorrow and, if it does, it will in reality be just an aberration. Perhaps these are the reasons that group rides are rare? If you can get a few people together (hard task any time) then something will override.
I hope to get down to Phillip Island next weekend for the MotoGP. Being a R1200R rider it is not so much for the race as the return trip. Thought a scratch through the Alpine regions of NSW & Victoria could be a good path down and another route back. Avoid highways at all costs. Have reasonable priced accommodation available in Thredbo if needed.
I haven't bothered with the fine detail like accommodation once there but I guess if it's problematic there is always Melbourne on Saturday night and an early sprint to the Island.
Anyone interested?
