Starting to go through my final "what do I need to take?" questions and figuring out how all will be packed. I am very much looking forward to this ride.

It was locked because this thread replaces it. Consider it a migration. And no - I didn't lock it. They know better than to make me a moderator I just run people off.

Re: Final Days - Harriman Bash - Final Planning
Uhhh .. . . I thought Boxer was speaking German, until I read it backwards.
Just made the final front fork preload spacer adjustments to fine tune the cornering, well after the Gold Valve installation. My replacement Zumo450 GPS came 2 days ago with the (latest) 2009 USA map and brand new everything (case, battery, screen, etc)! With the newer menu system you can choose, simultaneously:
--"Shortest Distance"
--"Least use of Freeways"
--"Avoid Toll Roads"
--"Avoid Unpaved Roads" (new)
The "Fastest Time" and "Most use of Freeways" ones I left unchecked. The route it calculated is commonly known as the "as a crow flys" route and there are NO divided highways for the whole 160+ mile trip! This Wednesday I just know I'll be motivated to wash-n-wax the bike for the trip. All 3 of the camera battery cubes will be charged. Making the refined packing "List" now so it'll all fit in and on this.
Here is the Harriman Tennessee Long Term Weather Forecast (scroll down). Looks pretty good so far. There's even high speed internet at our place, so the laptop will be cushion wrapped in the clean clothes wad, in the soft duffel bag strapped on behind me. Now where did I put that list . . . . . .

Re: Final Days - Harriman Bash - Final Planning
Things to do list:
Two more days of office hours, one ball game tonight, change the oil/rear drive fluid on the ST, pack, and I am good to go.
Be seeing you all in Harriman.
Ride safe,
Doc

Well I arrived at Indy Sat 4pm. Noticed the rear diff leaking on the RT. Dealer is picking up the bike today and will have if done tommorrow. Still got to ride Sunday as my oldest buddy who I am staying with has a 05' CRF250X. Lucky for me he borrowed a YZ250 and I got to beat his baby all day at a place called the Badlands.

What a blast! I am sore....Just road the off road area as they had races going on the track.
I will be back on my KTM for sure this summer!

What time window would "late" include?JB44, WNCBMW, and I are planning to meet late Thursday morning at Tellico Motorcycle Outfitters in Tellico Plains, TN (at the west end of the Cherohala Skyway). From there, we will wander north to Harriman.
Re: Final Days - Harriman Bash - Final Planning
Late morning: 0900-1500, approximately. Actually wncbmw might have a better idea since he knows that area of the state much better than I do.

Even with a detour to run on Deal's Gap, we should be able to hit Tellico Plains by 1 or 2.What time window would "late" include?
Or 2nd lunch in Hobbit time.

Re: Final Days - Harriman Bash - Final Planning
have fun everyone. my spine has not been strong enough for a ride of this distance so I will not be attending. I was hoping to make a surprise appearance and crash in ou812's place..or tonyT's...or johnnyjs...wait...that would get messy with all the ruckus coming from his room!
enjoy the ride...hope to see you all at the fingerlakes after labor day!

Re: Final Days - Harriman Bash - Final Planning
Asheville to Robbinsville to Tellico Plains is about 3.5 hours (at legal speeds). Add time for food, gas, and foolin' around.... Deal's Gap.

Re: Final Days - Harriman Bash - Final Planning
By 1 or 2. Hmmmm? I think Rob and I will probably be close to Harriman by that time if I can keep him in sight on the curves. But we'll be looking for you.
Re: Final Days - Harriman Bash - Final Planning
JB and Boxer, I'll give you both a call mid-morning on Thursday and give you an update on our ETA at Tellico Plains. With a little bit of luck, we'll all pull into the bike shop parking lot together.
