I've been trying to figure a way to get that extra day off Thursday, but it looks now like I won't make this Bash after all. The school district has clamped down on absenteeism without proper doctor excuses, and we only get to use 3 of our days a year for "personal" days not requiring a doctor's note. I have ONE of those days left for this school year. And Lewisburg is just a bit too far for me to go, ride Saturday and then return on Sunday. Traditionally I have been able to take both days off, Thurs. and Fri., for the Bashes in that neck of the woods, by fudging a little for Thursday as a mental health sick day off. Unless one of you guys is a psychiatrist and can write me a note, I can't come.

Phil, get with Dr. Strangelove and tell him it's an emergency.
I'm sure that he can get you the entire week.

Just trying to be helpful.

Root Canal! That's the ticket! Just schedule Doc to do it in his room at Lewisburg!

Doc - you can fit your tools on the bike, right?

Phil,

Just rest on Saturday instead of riding.
Longingly look for local Lewisburg Letterboxes.

MapQuest says 7 hrs 49 mins / 404.80 miles for me . . . be there for supper Wednesday evening. My tires should be fully scuffed in from Arby's (RBRider) annual ride scheduled for April 26th--30th on another site. Many old friends attending both of these BMW spring "Bashes".

Daryl, will there be another group wine sampling after dinner?

EDIT: For 1 day earlier arrival date.

Brian's idea sounds feasible. If I get a very early start Friday morning, I can be there by a little after noon. Then rest and relax on Saturday before the long ride back on Sunday. THAT is doable.

Is anyone in need of a roomie for Friday and Sat night?

Way to make it happen.
See you in May.

Come to the Bash in WV

I am posting an invite to the Beakster Bash for the weekend after Mother's Day on all the forums on this board. It originally came to be 9 years ago as an annual event when this was mostly an R1150R board but since the bike hasn't been made is some years, many folks have moved on and ride other bikes. All are invited and bring a friend, no matter what you or the friend ride!

West Virginia has some excellent motorcycle roads and a good time is had by all at these events. We are staying at the Quality Inn in Lewisburg, West Virginia.

Check out the thread on Group Rides and make some reservations!

I'd love to come, butttttt... Morton's Spring Fling is the same weekend (not very far away), and I've been registered for that for about 6 months now.. http://www.bmwmoa.org/forum/showthread.php?t=57659

Bummer.. there are only so many weekends..

Just Googled it - 85 miles. Might ride over on Saturday, or some of the Bashers might consider taking a ride to Natural Bridge. No charge for Spring Fling if you're not registering (which gets you prizes and several meals, and a dingle hour..)

coming to this late, but now seeing my name...a week is a stretch for anything that doesn't require hospital visits, home visits and get well cards. Nothing in excess.

I'd recommend gastroenteritis. Nice long name, goes away quickly, the note can be written after, or during, the fact, and no one argues with diarrhea and vomiting. (You want a specimen? Geez!) No one visits that. Definitely caller ID on your cell to sound appropriately weak. Can get off the phone quickly, because "something's coming!"

Better than root canal, which can in fact be an emergency, but is far more painful and you often are swollen afterward and sore for a week.It also prompts more questions. If you look too good, that may be suspect. D&V can be a 24 hour thing or a 72 hour, and "hey, I feel fine now!"

Problem solved.

(Happy Easter, y'all)

Hey CycleRob; we'll bring more wine with us. Just got a brief window of access to this site, checking in to say hello.
G & I will be booking our tickets this week, can't wait for some good riding again.

My pre retirement New Jersey riding friend/customer STDocLizard1 and I have our room reserved. These Bashes are always several memorable rides, friendly group evening meals and post ride parking lot sip-n-gab gatherings around the bikes that last until way after dark. Every year there are regretful responses from riders that "couldn't make it" for one reason or another. We are accepting NO excuses. See you there if you're going!

It just came to my attention...some serious forest fires going on in the neighborhood of our planned Bash right now. Biggest one it says is about 10 miles west of Covington, VA. We need to keep an eye on that.
