We have 10 of the 11 sites in Loop C.

Added Sun Mar 03, 2013 11:28 am:
This event is open to everyone and has almost no organization, but a lot of tradition. We generally arrive on Friday throughout the day, make a pizza and beer run, then hang out and talk all evening. Saturday typically begins with breakfast at the AppleTree Restaurant right off I-81. Then small groups break out in all directions for a day of riding. Saturday evening we gather again to eat, quite often somewhere with bad service. It is not unusual for someone to get their food late or not at all, that's just part of the fun.

The tent sites in Loop C are on wooden decks they call "pads". They vary in size but it usually isn't hard to get two tents on each pad so 20 guys can camp without problem. The Park Rangers have always been good to us, not too strict if we bend the rules, but we're quiet and respectful. With someone having already booked one of the sites we will probably be sharing the bath house with others.

Anyone who wants to guarantee themselves a site can send me $47. That is 1 campsite for 2 nights (Friday and Saturday). Do a Personal Transfer via paypal to dskyzd AT mcglothlinfamily DOT com. The personal transfer for "Payment Owed" will keep paypal from taking a cut on my end. If you want to send me a check instead, just contact me via email. I'll try to keep this post updated with confirmed payments.

DO NOT LET THE FACT THAT YOU DON'T RESERVE A SITE STOP YOU FROM COMING!
CAMPING IS NOT REQUIRED. YOU CAN STAY IN A HOTEL IF YOU WANT (and endure mild hazing).

There will be guys who pay for a site that are willing to share, you can settle up with them if you need to.

I was thinking about this over the weekend. Great! Who made the reservation? Brian? Where do we need to send a check for our site?

I'm trying to sort out the 2013 riding schedule; I'll pencil this in and will try to get my plans solidified. I'm tentatively planning a cross country ride sometime in late July or August so that may conflict with HMRR. If that falls through, then I'm in!

I'm in. The site payment is on the way. I will also start to recruit some fellow Georgia riders. Look for their money also.

I think I also owe you some from last year...so I'll send extra.

Edit: Crap Brian! I just reread your first post above and had missed the part about labeling the payment "Payment Owed". I just labeled it as "Other". Sorry 'bout that.

I would just like to point out I asked my questions before he edited the first post to answer all of them!

Brian - I'll get you payment soon! Thanks for making the arrangements!

Brian, Vann, Phil et al --

Would love to make this and hope to have the Roadster running to do so. Can't commit just yet - fingers crossed on getting the R bike running by the end of the week. Will try to get SJBMW (Herb) on board as well.

Hopefully see you guys this summer.

Charlie

I'm going to try and keep my schedule clear so I can make it this year. Haven't been since '09.

Charlie, did you get your bike running?

Hey guys, I'm new here. Can somebody fill me in about this ride?
where is it exactly?
I see people from GA, NC, VA, PA, etc..
I will be in the Asheville area in August, and would love to meet up with some other R12R owners.
thanks

It's a weekend camping outing.
There are reserved camping spots to grab.

Anyone familiar with the area enough to recommend a motel/hotel in close proximity? I could really use a trip like this but don't have any interest in sleeping on the ground or anywhere close to it.

Many thanks in advance.
Chris

I know how you feel Chris. I may go, but I'm sleeping on a mattress. Last time I went I stayed at the Econo Lodge in Marion. There appears to be a better looking place called America's Best Value Inn that I may try to say in this year. Both are about 5 miles from where the 'misguided' are camping. I haven't made reservations at this point.

One of those motels is where JB's bike fell and broke off his clutch lever. I wouldn't stay at those places. There has never been a clutch lever broken from a bike topple at the campground. ....plus I bet there has never been a hungry mother at either one of those motels.

That bike didn't fall; it was pushed. Most likely by a bitter camper who couldn't sleep in the inhumane conditions of a camp ground. I understand the anger which drove the camper to that point. However, there is some progress here. It shows the disgruntled camper is evolving. Hopefully this year he/she will join the modern humans and enjoy the comforts of air conditioning, television, and Internet access while the 'less evolved' sit around the campfire talking about how the earth is flat and then retire to sleep on the cold, hard ground. As far a the 'hungry mother' goes, of course you won't find one at the motel. They have a free continental breakfast!

Who wants a continental breakfast when the Appletree is just down the road? You can get gravy on your homefries, if you are nice to Patti. And we have watched movies at the campground, unfortunately. A basic lowdown is that we men camp and the princesses hotel it. We ride some absolutely tremendous roads. Someone doesn't get served dinner one night. Eat breakfast at the Appletree, and ride in the rain.

Touchton - you are exactly right. Camping is all about taking a step back in our evolution and getting in touch with our uncivilized self! How far back we evolve usually depends on how much beer (or Scotch! ) is available!
