New Topic Direction

Post by MikeCam »

New item...

Anybody looking to arrive early (either Thursday after 4 pm or early Friday) before official check-in....

... there are 9 sites available at Loop C for Thursday night (Aug 17).

Apparently, by scooping the weekend we are cutting down on neighbors for the arrival time. That's not a bad thing.

So are there any who planned to arrive Thursday evening?

I expect to arrive by 5:00pm. I have a good route planned that should be worthwhile.

If I can break away early Friday morning, (took the day off) I will make it up there a lot earlier than last year. Chris is not riding along this time, so my best guess would be about noonish or early afternoon on Friday. Provided I can get my tires installed somewhere before then.

Really looking forward to it.

It looks to be a late arrival for me. I probably will slip out of work a little early but still probably won't make it before dark-thirty. They don't lock the gates do they?

Latest

Post by MikeCam »

Campsites Booked:

Latest paid in reserved/assigned sites (many thanks to all subscribers):
machew01 Site 1
Boxer Site 2
R4R&R Site 3
Chibbert Site 4
Vann Site 5
Camfarm Site 6
Dskyzd Site 7
Arbreacames Site 8
MCoop Site 9
CupoHemlock Site 10

To be fair, the 'assigned' sites are notional. We do not know what site the 'other' guy will have taken already.

All others, you will get a tent site and full access. Just be prepared to pay the site 'owner' a fair share for usage.

Additional practical matters.

1. Meals. We can cook at the site. Sites do not have electricity but the latrine/shower facility does. The Park restaurant is good but handles groups poorly. They get crowded on Saturday nights. Downtown is a nice Italian place (I believe I was the nearest thing to an Italian there in many months). There are numerous convenience stores.

2. Roads. VA 16 North or South. US 58 East and West. VA 42, US 11, lots of local roads. Many twisties and tasties. Plan for several smaller groups instead of one large group ride.

3. There's always something else isn't there? What have I forgotten?

On Topic Men!

I was planning to drive down (or ride, load dependant) Thursday evening so I could scarf up some sites early, go riding and return later in the day.

But clients are scheduling a meeting from 1500-1730 for the 17th....rats!

More later.

Nelson, don't let them kid you. It's the curse of Hungry Mother...Or maybe the curse of Brian. We're not sure, but it seems to rain every time we go for at least part of the time. If you don't have rain gear, I have an extra pair of rain pants you can use if you can come up with a jacket solution.

Mike and any others,
Would you let me know if you will arrive on Thursday 17 to ride on Friday 18? I need to head back home on Saturday PM, so I am trying to get an early start.

I put in for rain here this weekend so next weekend would be nice. But I think I tried this last year too and it didn't work. Boxer, there's no curse!!!  I camped a Willville with Mike and Mike last weekend and there was no rain....well actually there was little, a few miles of wet road, not any real drops. Prepare for rain though. We don't call it a Rain Ride for nothing.

So, Kevin is going to hang with us and bring a friend from VA Beach. Killer Diller!! Carlos is coming from Norfolk. Does the timing work for them to travel together or is Carlos coming on Thursday night? Carlos? Carlos? Where'd you go?

I'd like to get over there Thursday evening, but realistically I don't know if that will happen. I'll be there very early Friday though.

Chibby, lard??????

Lard!? Girlfriends/wives??!! Screws and nails??!! My mind is reeling.

The Georgia contingent is struggling at the moment with bike related parts/mechanical issues. I didn't get my tires via FedEx yesterday as promised. The latest is they will come Monday. The Dominatrix sits patiently shoeless in the garage at the moment.

Nelson is waiting on his bike repairs from a parking lot mishap. His Roadster got dingle and had a fight with a car and lost.

And now I have "LARD" to worry about. Don't even think about it Brian. That Chibbert kid has a perverted streak. If he were my boy?.....

Edit: The nanny wouldn't let me type c0cky

I'm here, still trying to make complicated plans to make it to the rally. I have to be in McLean, Nothern VA, by 11:50pm Saturday night or the family will make a pumpkin out of me. I am still planning for a Thursday PM departure from Newport News and I would love to hook up with those of you arriving early on Friday.
