What, are you guys shy? Where's the Orlando "R" riders?

Hope you're showing up this morning at the cafe.

Looks like there's going to be GS and C riders for sure.

Oct 1st Ride

Post by minimike »

Our first ride is this Sunday, October 1st. We will meet at the 7-11 in Winter Garden on West Hwy 50 and Avalon RD / 545. Meet at 9am and pre-ride briefing is as 9:15am. We will ride out right after the briefing.

We’ll ride the back roads South and North of Clermont before riding around Sugar Loaf Mountain. We’ll stop for lunch at the Yalaha Bakery Bakery http://www.yalahabakery.comso bring a few bucks.

After lunch we will return via 561, 561A, and the Sugarloaf Mountain road. We can stop on top of the Mountain (or Hill depending on where you’re from) for a few pictures. Then we will get a second run on the “S” curves on 561 before heading back to town.

I’ll hand out route guides at the briefing. If you have any questions, feel free to call me at 407-826-4269. Proper riding gear please. I’d hate to have to put down a rider. ;0)

Hope to see you on the ride!

A couple of ADV Riders!

Not an ADV Bike!

Rainer and Minimike. Guess you can tell who is who.

Image

Here's a mix of bikes for sure!

Image

Reflector check!

Image

These are ADV Bikes!!!!!!:clap

Image

Old School, new K1200S, and new GSA.

Image

Steve is going to show Carlos what a R1200RT will do!

Image

Stacey, how come your new shiny Yellow & Black K1200S isn't in the photo?

Image

We had a good turn out. One person said they counted 33 bikes. Getting thru a couple lights was rough. We'll be splitting future rides into smaller groups to solve that. I really liked No. 2 road behind Howey-in-the-Hills. It's very scenic with the horses, rolling hills, and stables. Lunch at the Yalaha Bakery was fantastic!

I got an email from Ray King and his little off road adventure on the R1200C wasn't too bad. Sounds like he'll have a slight limp for a few days. Thanks to John Brown for his help getting the cute Blond EMT to take care of Ray! It helps to have a LEO on your ride! Ray said he became target fixated and drove right off the road. We were in town and not moving fast, so it could have been a lot worse.

We're off and running! The BMW Riding Group of Orlando is here! Our MOA and RAI paper work was mailed out last week, so we're going to be chartered. A web designer is working on creating a club website and that should be up and running within a week or two. It's going to be a great riding season!

Good on you for your efforts. Looks like you're building a good group and backing it up with charters. There's something to be said for organization.

Here's to many safe rides in the future!

Dec 3rd ride to Crescent City

Post by minimike »

We had a good turn out for this weekends ride in spite of the fog. Twenty five bikes and I think about 30 riders & their passengers.

Image
Steve & I lead the two groups we divided into.

Image
The girls are shopping the Sunday adds while we wait to ride out!

Image
A little fog isn’t stopping us!

We took 46 West to 46A, then East on 44 to Deland. Then we skirted Deland on the scenic Grand Ave. That’s a nice rolling ride under a canopy. Up CR-3, West on 40, & then we cut up the corners on Emporia RD. Crossed 17 to do the Shaw Lake loop thru the fern farms. Then we jump on 17 to catch the Raulerson/Brownie RD loop. This was freshly paved and the curves around Cow pond were sweet! Then North into Crescent City for lunch!

Image
We’re here!

Image

Image

Image

Image

The food was fantastic!

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image
3 Bananas is popular with everyone!

Image

Our LEO escort!

Image

Hey! Where’s the BMW Motorcycles of Orlando t-shirt?

Image

Time to gear up and continue the ride!

Image

We passed the North East guys coming in as we were leaving. I guess they didn’t know that we were eating at 3 Bananas too. It was funny seeing all the double takes on our way out. They must have wondered why all the BMW’s were leaving!

We headed West on 308 and saw someone having a blast doing stunts in a small prop plane! It was at low altitude, so we had a good view as we rode past. North on 309, East on 308B, cross 17, and then the Sisco Rd loop around Lake Broward. New pavement and lots of curves under the trees here! North on 17, South on 309, over on Georgetown Denver Rd, and South on Old 17. We jumped on 17 to CR-3, did the Blackburn loop, back on CR-3 we opened it up a bit! Back into Deland and stopped for gas at the Citco at 44 & Grand. Then finished the day coming back to 46 around 3pm.

Thanks to everyone for attending such a neat ride!

9:30am, bikes start gathering:

Fast group decides against 429 / E-pass side

Image

Look, BMW riders with a camera!

Image

We split into three groups. Rainer took the GS riders out first. He had around a dozen bikes or so. Even a KLR! I was envious.
The Sport riders followed me out next. There were 20+ bikes behind me. A few VFR’s, a Multi-Strada, a Buell, and a Sprint were along for the ride too. Everyone’s welcome! My wife, Cherie, lead the touring group out last. I think there were more than a dozen bikes in her group. A Harley was along with here group to I think.

The Sports ride was very spirited. Shelley was working very hard on her F650 to keep up with us. We took a couple extra roads than the Touring group, and then arrived at a resting spot behind them. They had great fun teasing us about arriving after them.

While we were keeping an eye out for sand in the corners, the GS Group was having a blast in the sand!

How did the KLR get in the front?

This is minutes from Disney!

Really, this is Central Florida. Just minutes from Downtown Orlando.
Image

I slowed down a little in the second half of the ride due to anticipated LEO activity on 535. Sure enough, there was a young girl on a Ninja getting a ticket at 535 and Apopka Vineland. I felt for her; however, she had the deputy’s attention, so………. we opened it up a little on Palm Pkwy. The tourist kindly moved out of our way. The Sports Group arrived back at Panera’s first. Followed not too far behind by the Touring group.

The whole event was planned around the street riders getting back first. So, we went in and ordered. Then we sat outside, had lunch, told a few lies, and waited for the dirt riders. And waited. And waited. Told a few more lies. And waited. Then they showed up.

This Saturday, Feb 10th, BMW Motorcycles of Orlando is saying goodbye to our college and good friend Rainer Helmke. He’s going to Portland, Oregon to help open a new BMW Motorcycle shop. So we’ve decided to have a small going away party. The shop is open 9am to 6pm on Saturday, you’re welcome to come by any time. We will be cooking hot dogs starting around 11am. There will be chips and soda too. There will be a few bikes set up for demo rides and BMW motorcycle video's will be playing in the show room. We hope to see you! Mike Dozier

April 22 Eat & Play

Post by minimike »

SUNDAY APRIL 22ND

LUNCH AND PLAY!

We’re meeting a little later so some of the riders that attend Sunday Church services may be able to make the event this time. The club will meet for lunch at Happ’s Redwing Restaurant from 11am to 2pm for lunch. We have a banquet room reserved for us; thus, we don’t have to be worried about finding enough seats. Why so long for lunch? Because we have something special planned for you!

BMW Motorcycles of Orlando will have a F800ST, a G650 Moto, a G650 Country, and a G650 Challenge for you to try out. Between 11am and 2pm, we will be running dirt and street demo loops to give you an opportunity to ride the new bikes.

You will need proper riding gear, a current motorcycle endorsement, proof of insurance, and no alcohol consumption until after demo ride. If you like, we can fax you the release form ahead of time to speed things up.

BMW Motorcycles of Orlando also has a door prize for those that test ride one of the new bikes!

So, ride out with your BMW buddies, eat lunch, and ride one of the new bikes!
