Official R1150R.net message posting policy

Here is the posting policy. I hate policies but sites this large need one, so here it is.

RULE 1: posting in the correct section.
It takes a tremendous amount of effort to keep a board like this clean and tidy. We need everyone's help to keep it organized.

If you are going to post a message, it should be posted in the correct section. For a description of what each section is supposed to contain, please visit this link: http://r1150r.org/board/index.php

It is people's tendency to use the r1150r or r1200r sections to post everything, but this is not correct. Some stuff I will let slide if it could be r1150r-related at all, but ideally ONLY stuff related in some way to the r1150r motorbike should be in that section (for example, a windscreen discussion, or your post talks about a new tire option for our bike, it should be in r1150r too. If there is an electronic gizmo, you can probably get away with posting it in the r1150r section if it can be affixed to the r1150r (for example a GPS device). If you want to tell the world about how bad of a hair day you are having that definitely DOES NOT belong in the r1150r section. Put it in off-topic. :D

Ok, so are we clear? If your post can be related to the r1150r in some way, put it in r1150r, otherwise put it somewhere else where it makes sense. Just use logic to guide your way!

Since I absolutely hate politics, religious or moral topics, they do not belong on the board at all, but since you all whined about that, we made a [donating] member-only section called Pat's section, so post that dribble in there. Since Pat is a casual sort of fellow, I guess "anything goes" in Pat's section, but hear this: If a post results in name calling, people's feelings getting hurt, or it is obviously inappropriate in its content, we will not only be erasing the entire post, but we will take actions to start banning people if they are not acting in an appropriate manner. We are all treated equal here, and it is quite possible to have a valuable and interesting discussion, EVEN IF YOU DISSAGREE, with resorting to petty name calling or other similar personal attacks. Please note this behavior is the easiest way to get banned. Always ask yourself, would I write this if the person was standing in front of me, or around a camp fire? We all take some pleasure in our anonymity online, but don't let your anonymity let you slip into stupidity.

RULE 2: potentially offensive material

NOTE THAT IMAGES THAT MAY BE CONSIDERED INNAPROPRIATE SHOULD ONLY BE IN PAT'S SECTION. NO EXCEPTIONS.

The rule for posting images on this site that COULD BE considered inappropriate is to post a LINK to the image (using the URL button), and clearly state what the content is. For example:

Naked guy on bike(NSFW): http://tinpan.fortunecity.com/ebony/546 ... n-bike.jpg

Note the NSFW which means "Not Safe For Work". If your link content is not too bad, and its probably safe for work, you can put "SFW" which means "Safe For Work."

Basically, if you are not 100% sure if the image is appropriate, then post a link to it. To gauge if the image is appropriate, ask yourself these sorts of questions: "Would I show my grandmother this" or “Would I want my wife to see this" or "would I care if my mother-in-law saw me viewing this from the other room" or “would I want my child to see this." Get the picture? I am being tolerant of inappropriate material, not because I want to see it, but because some do. I think any images including women in some degrading way are not appropriate for this site. But I am allowing them if you use the above method. There will be no exceptions and if we catch them posted incorrectly, they are going to be erased without explanation.

A blatant use of nudity or the human form such that it evokes a question as to whether or not it may be offensive to someone... well... its pretty obvious that its going to offend at least one person. If there is a question in your own head, you know what to do - post a link to it.

I guess I'll say this again.. This material should be in Pat's section ONLY. Don't post it inline where someone who clicks on the link to a message will automatically see it when the message loads up. Imagine you are at work, in your cubby, you click on a link and up pops a big set of boobs and your boss happens by. I'd say that's a pretty sure bet that if you work in any serious sort of environment that the boss will take note. In companies like the one I work for, if that image came up on my screen, it is a valid reason to get fired. Honestly.

So folks, if you want to post this stuff, just make it blatantly obvious what the content is and make sure it is in Pat's section. I know there is a certain joy in the "surprise factor" when posting an image, but if you want to post potentially offensive material; this is the only way that I can logically see where everyone is happy. The poster gets his moment of joy out, and the viewer doesn't have to look at it if the description is such that it may offend, or be inappropriate to look at at that particular time.

RULE 3: Everyone must treat each other with respect
I'm repeating this because its important. Everyone must feel like they are welcome here, and if they don't, the board has a problem.

When we started this board over ten years ago it was successful because everyone liked each other, shared information with each other and respected each other. We had a nice place to go take a break, learn something new and relax. Over time, as we obtained more members, it has been more difficult to maintain this. But I am very careful to make sure the board does not shift from a welcoming, informative and interesting environment, to one of anger, name calling, he said, she said, blah blah blah. Lets stay to our roots.

If the board becomes a source of frustration, negativity and chaos, then it will find itself just like most of the other message boards on the net.. full of useless posts, people who only post to hear themselves talk and generally just a waste of bandwidth. I can tell you that if this happens, I will personally lose interest in keeping it going and it will eventually disappear. The board is so much of a financial and time strain on me as it is, I just can not rationally see why I would foster it.

Ok, so now you all know the rules. Go do great things.

I jsut read this post for the first time since I posted it in Nov 2005. Wow, I was a little agressive there, eh?

Just wanted to mention that since then we've been on a gradual incline towards a informative and friendly place to visit, and I just wanted to thank everyone for maintaining civility and keeping this site true to its core beliefs. Cheers! =D>
