I have learned so much fascinating information about my 2002 RR from you all, and enjoy making the improvements many of you have done and advocated (including recently upgrading my cam chain tensioner). One of the things I've read about is damaged wires running along both sides of the headpost; when I checked mine carefully, I saw the outer rubber covering was ripped and torn in several places, notably wherever it passed under cable tie-wraps. Fortunately, non of the wiring inside had chafed through (yet) and was still dry (I hate riding in the rain - still) so I doubled taped it and and encased it in plastic automotive-style loom that provides anti-chafe protection.
Thank you all for contributing your wisdom to this forum. I hope this reitieration of your previous contributions motivates those who haven't yet done so to check your headpost wiring to keep from frying something important at an inopportune moment. (As if there would ever be an opportune moment to get fried!)

Thanks for the reminder - I have an intermittent problem where my left blinker indicator light works when it feels like it. The blinker and switches all work fine, it's just the left indicator light on the dash that misbehaves. Maybe I need to look for a chaffed wire that's shorting out? Could this be a symptom?

Could well be, my right indicator and cancel switch both packed in earlier this year as a result of a broken wire. Sad thing is that despite this being the subject of a recall BM still haven't learned not to wind those damn ties up so tight. Looking over the new R1200R last weekend I saw that they are just the same...
