Larger sidestand foot

Post by Rockosmith »

I see on Bob's BMW website they have a bolt on side stand foot enlarger made of billet aluminum. That looks like a great idea to me. The only problem is they don't list one for the R1150R. Anybody know of a different source for this or if the 1150R sidestand is the same as something else??

Thanks

Won't the enlarged foot get in the way when you try to put down the main stand?
I frequently kick the bike into gear which then makes it difficult to get upon the stand.
I've got large feet though, UK size 12 (US 13).

The sidestand plate is in the Wunderlich catalog. If I get a chance later, I'll post which page it's on.
Yes, you will need to alter your centerstand deployment technique, but I'm sure you can handle it. I'm not too smart, and I wear size 12 boots, and still managed to figure it out.
I think it's so worth having, that when I lost the first one because I didn't think about putting Loctite on the screw threads, I promptly ordered another. This one has stayed put for 8,000 miles.

Yes- loctite the screws or bed the base plate on with silicone sealer. I too lost my first one!

Also, the enlarged foot was very very close to the exhaust system on my bike so I carefully shaved some of the foot off with the bench grinder to give 5mm clearance. Without that, every time I put the stand up it hit the exhaust. Use some black metal paint to cover the bare metal!

Make your own.

They cost like $35 which is pretty high i think.

I just got a 1/8" piece of aluminum cut, file round, etc. to fit.

Drilled three holes and tapped them.

Loctite in the threads.

Seems like alot of work but can be done as time permits if your not in a hurry.

Bob's BMW makes thier own version, it works great no problems. Remember to locktite the screws!! Can't remember the price. But his throttle lock is better and cheaper then the others out there.

My poor man's solution was a galvinized cover plate from an electrical junction box. I attached a length of nylon cord to it that I loop around the handlebar when the plate's in use so I don't ride off and forget it.

Fit's easily in the tank bag, works like a charm and best of all, the total cost was about a buck.
