Is there a false neutral beteween 5th and 6th gear??

Post by Edmundo Amado »

Hi, It has happened to me three times in the last month that when poo from 5th to 6th it does't gets engaged, I have to clutch and push the lever up again and then it engages with no problem. It happened at about 5 t 6 K rpm. It has occurred also that when shifting from 1st to 2nd it gets stucked in neutral, I have to the clutch again and push up and it engages ok. Mi bike is a 2003 R850R with 17000 kms about 10 000 miles. Do you think that I am making a mistake or should I take my bike to the mechanic? thanks in advance for your help...

I can't tell you how many times I've hit neutral when going into second... usually when I'm accelerating faster... probably because there's more load on the gears and I don't pull the clutch in all the way... With the 1100/1150 series they shift much smoother if you preload the shifter right before you pull in the clutch... slips right in... There's my .02

6th? SIXTH?

Is a six speed tranny available on the R1100R? Man, how nice could I cruise if I had one! Is it an aftermarket thing, a conversion from some other model, or a factory option?

That was my first thought upon reading, as well; but he did specify a 2003 R850R. I know that the 850s and 1100s are/were quite similar in styling and mechanics and that many of the models after I bought my bike in 2000 started changing but thought the 6th gear didn't begin until the 1150 series. Of course, I am new to BMW, the first one I ever owned being my current bike purchased in 2000, so I do not claim to be a uber Beemer scholar.....

That is true, it is a 2003 R850R, since there is no message board for it, i am wondering from board to board, and finding more similarities than differences and lots of help. thanks..

The 6 speeder's started with the R1100S of some year, if I am not mistaken.

My R1200CLC has six speeds. My R1200C had only five. What a world of difference. Makes a grand freeway high speed overdrive. A number of R12C owners have gone to the trouble and expense of swapping trannies to get a sixth. Has anyone done that on an R1100R?
