Hot town, summer in the city...
With summer officially here, mother nature as if on cue, brought a record breaking heat wave recently to the San Francisco Bay area. Where I live, just east of SF, the temperatures were well over the century mark and after a few days of no relief, I needed a trip to the beach to check out the hang gliders and surfers. Cool air...here I come!
Along the east shoreline of San Francisco Bay, an artist sets up his easel in the shade of a tree. That pointy looking building behind him is called the Transamerica Pyramid - one of many unique landmarks in SF.
Out in the middle of the bay, the crumbling buildings of Alcatraz prison could be seen in the early morning light.
I always enjoy watching the hang gliders. It's a sport I've never tried but it's on my list! On this particular day, the winds were quite calm but enough for the few I saw soaring along the shoreline. At one point I saw a few blackbirds playing along the ocean bluff and thought how cool it would be to get both a hang glider and a bird in the same photo. Not soon after that wish and look what happened! Wish all of my photos were that easy.
My bike at the base of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Up on the bridge, headed to my secret surf spot to see if the surf was up.
Sure enough, it was, although a bit sloppy because of the tide. Made for some fun wipe-out photos.
Before heading home, one last look at the bridge from the Marin Headlands as the setting sun turned the tip of the north tower into a beautiful shade of red.

Soooo cool, Michael. Dang, that's a big bird!!! Great surf pics. Poor guys had no idea you were forever documenting their falls. The bridge shots are fantastic too. I always love your reports. Thanks.

Question: How do ya'll keep your bikes so clean? Your shot of the Golden Gate Bridge through your sparkling windscreen is is so pristine!

My wife has a lot of pictures of me a surfboards in very similar positions...I usually spend more time swimming around it than standing on it. That or going through the washing machine up the beach...
