Full size left case question
I picked up the left side inner case half from Bob's yesterday for an r1150rt thinking I would just have to change over the locks and lid from the old case.
No such luck. The front mount is inside where the current mount is - basically where the muffler was. I wish I wasn't in a hurry when I picked it up. I could have caught it right away.
Did I get the wrong case half or do I need to do something with the front case mount / passenger foot peg assy?

Re: Full size left case question
Hi Andy,
I believe you have got yourself a full size left side inner case half without the muffler cutout. I have this setup done by the previous owner of my bike. In order to mount this full size left case to your bike, you need to lower the muffler or get rid of it and mount a bracket to shift the mounting peg to the new position.
This is an example on a GS (post edited: replace the GS pics with my R1150R pics ). It is too late for me to take a few pictures of my bike’s bracket in the car park (it’s 4:01am now). I’ll try to post a pic of mine when I wake up tomorrow.

Re: Full size left case question
The RT case is full sized and you have to lower the muffler for it to fit, many of us have done that or just removed the muffler and used a chrome tip. Look at the search button for the mod. BMW sells all the pieces to make the mods, lowering kit and an adapter to move the mount for the full sized case in board. Not cheap but is the way I did it. Then I found a staintune and put that on as well as a Remus cat eliminator. It looks stock but I lost a lot of weight. You have lots of choices don't rush as used parts are available.

Re: Full size left case question
I know I've seen a picture of someone screwing or bolting on a short piece of aluminum "U" channel (basically, some square tubing with one side cut off) to the inner case that captured the existing footpeg-mounted pad. That's probably how I'd do it. It didn't look too bad either!

Re: Full size left case question
I have the chrome tip in place of the muffler. What BMW parts make this right? I was looking at the BMW parts fiches but didn't see any good answers. The part from the RT doesn't look like it will work.
Re: Full size left case question
For the exhaust tip - go to an autoparts store and ask for a 1.75" chrome exhaust tip, curved if possible. As for the clamp, you can use the small set-screws that come on the tip, or the original clamp that held your muffler on (you'll probably have to cut a slit in the tip if you use the clamp). Beware - the set screws need frequent attention - they'll work loose pretty quick.
I used angle-iron to make a shifted bracket:
I couldn't go back to the original left bag again!

Re: Full size left case question
Phang - I like your solution much better than the GS you originally posted. Excellent solution that looks factory, but custom making a part like that will take more time than I have to spare.
I like the metal angle brackets for their simplicity.
I was thinking about using the plastic boot on the end of the aluminum bracket and attaching it to the case. The plastic looks thick and sturdy enough. If that doesn't work, I'll probably try the angle iron.

Andy,
The setup you see in phang's pics is a factory BMW kit. I've got one, unused for now. PM me if interested.

Re: Full size left case question
I have the RT inner bag but did not want to pay $36 for the rivit kit, when the hardware store has bolts & rivits.
Can someone tell me what size blots, how many, & if I have to use rivits for hard to get to areas what size?
How long does this take the 1st time?
Should I get the rivit kit?

Re: Full size left case question
I wouldn't get the rivet kit. I'll post what I used once I have all the parts together. I am probably going to use stainless 8-32 screws and nylock nuts on the hinges. Aluminum rivets would be just as good, but the screws would allow for easier removal if you would want to do so.

Re: Full size left case question
Please see below my solution for using an RT left case on th R
Thanks
Eduardo.
And internally it looks like this.
The plates are connecting opposite U clamps.
One of the plates has some other thiner piece below it in order to make for the different
angle the case offers to each arm of the U clamp.
The clamps are stainless stell, bought at Home Depot, something like 3$ each.
Externally the case looks like this.
Thanks
Eduardo.

Re: Full size left case question
I just used the left rear footpeg from a r1100gs or R1150gs.

Did you use them in a R1150R?
Please explain.
Have any pictures?
Thanks
Eduardo.
Re: Full size left case question
Sorry. I think I modified either R100GS or R1150GS rear foot pegs. I'm not sure how to post pictures.

Are you saying those footpegs are capable of providing the support for the bigger bags used on the RT, (meaning then theya can be used on R1150R, or similar).
Thanks
Eduardo

Thank you f4tweet....!
I tlooks like a very clean solution.
Question would be...?
These pegs also include the bracket that serves as support for the bag and for the muffler?
Of course in my case using a short tip instead of the muffler, the bracket would provide support only for the bag.
Would you be able to provide the OEM part numbers?
And the prices and place where you bought them at?
Thanks a lot again.

1 82000419398 Muffler mounting bracket $106
1 82000419400 Muffler adapter pipe $45
I purchased these from my dealer. The modified ( shortened) Left footpeg was used.

Re: Full size left case question
I used a muffler lowering kit and side case mount relocator kit from Wudo. All in one..or two..pieces.

I couldn't find an outlet for Wudo. Do you have a link for the US?
