200k mile club?
I've heard of people getting over 100,000 miles on their r1150r. Is this true? Has anyone ever gotten 200,000 miles on theirs? I only have 4,500 miles on mine and I'm very curious to see what I can expect to get out of this. So, how many miles do you guys have on yours?
Re: 200k mile club?
Last I looked, I had something over 45,000 miles.

Re: 200k mile club?
90K on an '04.
Re: 200k mile club?
9500 miles on a 2002. And that's having doubled the mileage on the bike since I bought it in June or July 2009.
I have seen threads on here where peopled talked about 80k or more on their bikes, but don't recall any in the six figures. It would be interesting to hear who has the high mileage bike around here. Not me of course.

Re: 200k mile club?
yes, tlwood, that's exactly what I'm trying to figure out......it looks like rockosmith so far with 90k. I ran into someone an old-timer this morning who had a '79 model and he had 105k. His bike looked great, sounded smooth, and rode like new.
Re: 200k mile club?
84,000 miles and the engine has never missed a beat. Basic service at prescribed intervals. No exhaust can, but retained the cat.
Replaced the clutch and some box bearings while the bike was in bits when I stripped some teeth off the flywheel pumping water out of the cylinders a while back. Doesn't use oil. Doesn't blow smoke. Runs sweet enough (for a tractor).
I'm happy, but I only do long runs with it.

Re: 200k mile club?
Re-reading this thread, it occurred to me that a 2001 (not available in the US) is the first year of these bikes. At 10,000 miles a year--and that is a LOT of miles to put on a motorcycle year after year-- that puts the bike crossing 90,000 miles. I would say Rocko and Mixr have to be at the vanguard of the mileage kings.
Re: 200k mile club?
TLwood, that's a very good perspective/analysis. I've never thought of doing the math of: production release year to avg. miles per year ratio. Living in the sunshine state, I plan on riding everyday unless it rains. It rains quite a bit during hurricane season here in FL. With that in mind, I think I should be well around the 10k per year average.
Re: 200k mile club?
Here's a good article on BOA about on the road maintenance on a K75s with 90K and a R1150r with 123K miles, a good read.

note the date of the article Nov 04, I wonder what milage it has now.

Re: 200k mile club?
smckanl, nice article! So, according to the article, there was a K75S at 90,000miles and R1150R at 123,000miles. Wow!!!!

Here is evidence of another R, apparently now in bike heaven, after chugging along for 124,500 trouble free miles per the ad:

Re: 200k mile club?
Mine is indeed a 2001, first registered in April 2002. I got it in April 2004 with a low 10,000 miles on it. Five years later, I have put on a mere 75,000 miles additional. My riding is mostly distance stuff these days (FarRiders), so it gets infrequent use but long trips when it comes out of the shed.
Hard to replace such a good machine, which is why I haven't.

Re: 200k mile club?
I have a riding buddy that has over 230k on his K1100RS, but that's not exactly apples to apples (although it does appear to use the same or a very similar rear-drive unit). Another has 80k-ish on her 2005 R1150R. I have 31k on my 2004, so I don't have anything to talk about.

Re: 200k mile club?
86k miles on my '04 R1150RA, purchased new in December, 2003. I take a long trip every summer and commute 50 miles a day when the weather cooperates, which is most of the time in the San Francisco Bay Area. Normal maintenance performed by the dealer and both stick coils replaced at 60k miles. One new battery (replaced before a trip when the original was 4 1/2 years old), and lots of tires.
I was thinking about a new bike this year, just because the 1150 is getting up there in miles, but I'll hold off for another year. I can't think of anything I'd rather be riding.
My other ride is a '73 R75/5 with 206k miles, but there isn't much original left on that bike except the fenders, frame, and forks.

230k??? Really?? If true, that's very impressive.MattPie wrote:I have a riding buddy that has over 230k on his K1100RS, but that's not exactly apples to apples (although it does appear to use the same or a very similar rear-drive unit). 206k....sounds like you sure got you money's worth from those 70's bikes.
86k on 50-mile-commute - I'm sure you'll go past the 100k mile on that bike as well. Sounds like you take good care of your bikes.
My '02 R1150R barely has any miles on it and my commute to work is only 1 mile (lol). I love my bike and I'm already shopping around for my next bike. I'm definitely leaning towards a k1200. I have no complaints with my R1150R. I will continue to buy BMW bikes.
Re: 200k mile club?
Yep, he had 80-something thousand miles on it and crashed it, getting a new odometer in the rebuild process. The new odo has 150k on it now. He rides *a lot*.tcm92678 wrote:230k??? Really?? A ONE mile commute to work? Have you considered a Ruckus?tcm92678 wrote:peterbulgar wrote:

Re: 200k mile club?
My '04 is pushing 80,000 miles and still going strong. Only real problems I've had are the primary spark plug coils going out on me. Otherwise, typical maintenance.
