1150 RTP radio box to rear seat conversion.

Post by dtpetty »

Years ago I saw a thread about this topic. I was very single at the time so I pretty much ignored it.

Now I have a new "Love of My Life" who is absolutely dieing to ride.

Anybody have any info? (kit/junkyard etc)

No doubt parts available from dealer for a $teep price.

Thanks in advance

To my knowledge this is an easy mod. Check which parts are needed on realoem and then watch out for these on e-ba* Or send a message to any of the salvage specialists like beemerboneyard about what you need ...

01 RTP1100 , I just finished my copbike to 2 seater conv.
Go to beemerboneyard.com and see the kit they sell for $400 and pick out what you need. I didn't want all the stuff they offered and I saved $.
bmwsporttouring.com has my posts as well as others and I found one post with step by step pics.
Your bike already has correct rr subframe and fender.
I got rr seat off ebay $120, 3 rear plastics{you need all 3} from a guy on sporttouring for $100. Lots of rear plastic on ebay , but you need top plastic behind seat.
If you add civilian side case rails, then you will need rr luggage frame and rubber seals for holes in top plastic.
I used cop luggage side rails and sealed off holes. No rr luggage rack on mine.
You will need: rr seat latch & lock, w bolts and blind nuts, from A&Scycles.com about $50.
I took off all the cop crashbars, ugly...
Get out your test lite and turn key on, look for cop cut hot wires, shorten and heatshrink em off.
Gather all the extra cop wiring, zip tie them out of the way and have a beer.
It took me about 4-5 hrs, but I am ocd when it comes to working on the bike.

I just took me lady out for a ride the first time after converting cop bike to 2 seater.
I measured rr suspension on ctr stand, then with me on it on ground, then with her on it.
I turned up rear shock dampening half turn.
2 hr ride w break for lunch. It rode like a dream, in twisties and hiway.
The only time I could feel extra weight was stopping and starting.
RT bikes rock!
