MFW Vario pegs or Suburban Kit

Post by stogiepuffer »

Hello all, Going to lower pegs (knee injuries) and I am debating between the MFW Vario pegs with the 30mm extension or the Suburban kit. I'm probably going with the Vario (looks cleaner and seems adjustable to a point). Any thoughts from those that have one or the other? An fitment issues? Thanks in advance... :D

I have the Suburban kit. It is so well interated with the bike that I have to actually point out the various bits. My knees have been much happier snce the install.

Install was very easy.

Do a search on me and footpeg lowering to see pix and read all about the project.

My bike also has the Suburban kit, but I ended up fabricating a new shift lever to get the shift tab where I wanted it: further forward, out, and down a bit. YMMV.

Installed the Suburban peg lowering kit the other day. Very easy to put on. I don't generally have issues with my knees, but have found that after 6 hours or so, the R position leaves me a bit cramped. But I have other hopes for this kit. There is more going on here than lowering your feet, and thus easing the knee bend. This slight move in the feet also changes the angle of your hips and helps to straighten your lower back. Another side benefit is that the resulting hip bend tends to bring your hands more readily to the grips. I think the peg lowering is going to be a major improvement to long ride comfort for me due to all these changes combined.

Thus far I've got about 2 hours time with this. More time will help me cement these impressions. Perhaps I'll report back then.

Bob - Don't forget to post your height and inseam. Major issues when talking ergonomics, it will give a better idea of who will be interested in your modifications. ;)

Sure. I'm 5'11" with a 30 or 32 inseam.

I've had the Suburban Machinery kit on my '07 for 4.5 years. It integrates very well indeed and simply appears to be part of the bike - most variable pegs look a bit like an afterthought to my eye.

I'm no hoon (Hi, Joe) so I have never come close to touching a peg or my boot - my "chicken strips" on Meteler Z6 tyres are about 1cm (0.4"), I I do go "over" but not rght to the edge!

To demonstrate the wide application, I'm 5'8" with a 28" inseam and Euro size 42 boots. I've mostly used a 780mm low seat, and also now have a 800mm seat (low comfort seat) as well.

The knee relief offered by -40mm is great, and combined with the +20mm of the comfort seat is a much more comfortable distance ride (I'm set up to tour). With 25mm bar-backs (MV Verholen) my ride position is clsoe to perfect for me and my riding style.

Hi All,
New to the forum as I just bought my '07 R1200R 2 weeks ago. I have been trying to find out which seat height I have on mine. The only numbers I can find stamped on the seat are:

163609-10
7 697 216-05

Does anyone know the number schemes for the 3 different seat heights so I can determine which seat I have? If mine is the standard height, I will definitely be interested in acquiring a low seat. If I already have the low seat, I do not want to by another low one. :D

I don't think the numbers under the seat change.. those are in the pan. You could try punching the numbers into the PN lookup on www.realoem.com and see what comes up.

To tell which seat you have - take a few photos of the seat from the side and post them here.

Cant he just measure from the ground to the seat? I found these specs online: 800 mm (low seat: 770 mm, high seat: 830 mm), which makes the standard height seat 31.5", which is consistent with some other specs online.

Could be a recent thing, but there's a production sticker on the underside of my (model year 2011) seat that identifies it as "Komfort Sitz NORMAL" so I'm guessing I have the standard height comfort seat.

Don't know when BMW started this practise, but it might be something to check.

I measured it while someone held the bike upright. Must have the standard seat as it was a smidge over 31.5". Thanks for the help. I'm going to keep an eye out for a used low seat and give it a try. Hopefully it's more comfy than the standard, but I won't hold my breath.
