2012 Carolinas BMW Rally

Post by slowtorque »

Anyone going to this, second weekend in August, over in Boone NC? Have never been before. Wondering how it might compare to the Hiawassee Georgia event I attended in May.

Can't imagine any bad roads in NC.
Had my best experiences there.:)

There are great roads around Boone, NC. I will be at Hungry Mother, but I have ridden to Boone and back with machew for lunch from Hungry Mother(probably one of the best days I have ever had riding). Advantages of Hungry Mother would include 16, and generally having the whole loop to ourselves.

Western mountains (of NC) have the best that I have ever rode. ;)

I went to the Boone rally years ago. I would go to Hungry Mother instead. (And do! ) Yes, the roads around Boone are great. And plugged with tourist and college traffic at that time of year. The rally site is OK but you will have to deal with other campers at the KOA. And the traffic.

Did I mention the tourist traffic?

OK, I live in Western NC. My son is moving into an apartment in Boone today to start college. I do some work up there also. And I hate dealing with the tourist traffic!

Go to Hungry Mother, ride to Boone on the backroads and go back to Hungry Mother via more backroads! That's a better plan! :)
