New Rock Owner, Seat Question

Post by gongetya »

I'm In New Orleans and just got an 04' Orange Rockster with 50k miles on her. She's wonderful. It's my first German machine and I'm impressed. I will never go back to Japanes or American made, although the Italians are putting out beautiful bikes :-)
I know alot of the R1150 GS parts are interchangeable so after much research where I could not find a definitive answer, I'm asking for yalls help.
I went out on a limb and ordered a Sargent front seat for the GS to replace the stocker. I'm assuming it will fit with minor modifications..
Has anyone else done this successfully with the Sargent?
It's the front only, non-heated.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I've a nastly feeling they're quite differently mounted.

The Rockster seat is one of the 3 variants for the R1150R model.
The 3 variants are 'high','mid','low' - with different amounts of foam (as far as I know).

Yea RICEBURNER,
I think you're right. I'm fairly innovative and may be able to make it work if it's only the seatpan.
Then again, I havent seen the seat in person yet and hardware modification won't make a difference if it just wont geometrically fit around the tank etc..
I'll do a write up on here if I can do it.
Thank you.

Re: New Rock Owner, Seat Question **CONFIRMED DIAGNOSIS**

I have 100% confirmed that the R1150GS seat will not physically fit on the rockster.
Not even with hardware modification.
The actual shape of the seat puts loaded weight on the rear side trim panels and also leaves a considerable gap between the seat and motorcycle body.
I tried this with a Sargent.

See if the custom seat supplier will swap for a R1150R custom seat (Rockster is identical seat fixing to R1150R as well as most other things).
