2014 Bash - May 16-18, 2014 - Mt. Airy, NC

Post by wncbmw »

So you can plan ahead! The Bash location next year will be in Mt. Airy, NC at the Quality Inn. While the motel is in NC, most of the riding will be in Virginia. Several of us are familiar with this area and the wealth of great back roads to ride. In addition, 421 out of Mountain City, TN (The Snake), gives The Dragon a run for its money as a destination ride. Of course, the Blue Ridge Parkway is nearby also. The motel is located only about a mile off I-74, which connects to I-77 only a short distance from I-81. Should be fast routes coming and going from the north and the south.

The location was recommended to me by a friend who attends a Ducati gathering at the same motel every year. They have come back of something like 18 years. A visit with the motel management shows why. They are giving us rooms for $74.99 (regular $99) in a block together at the back of the motel, so the bikes are away from prying eyes. Nice folks.

Our block of rooms is under the group name "BMW Bash". I would like to invite all the board members, regardless of what you ride, to attend. Should be a good time and I have at least one ride route in mind that is off the beaten path but a super day of riding. I also have a couple of routes the Ducati gathering uses. In this part of the country, you would be hard pressed to find a back road that is not a hoot to ride.

There is plenty of food and gas nearby and I would like to suggest we steal another idea from the Ducati crowd. They have an Italian restaurant cater a meal on Saturday night at the motel, using the breakfast room counters for a buffet line and the adjacent meeting room to eat in. The motel management has already made that available to us also.

More info later! Hope to have a large crowd attending.

*Edited to add list of attendees as of 3/18

My first year retired and can go as I please. I'm looking forward to it. I will most likely do three nights and if someone wants to share the expense of a room, I'm amenable to that.

I'm going to make it this year and it looks like some friends will be joining me on the trip. I was through the area last year on my way down to the RA Rally in Asheville and the riding was wonderful! Looking forward to some of the Ducati club routes.

Actually, Patty will be coming down to the BBXI this year. I don't know if she will ride her 919 or drive, but she will be in attendance.

After making the arrangements for this gathering and realized I had forgotten to book a room!

That is fixed now. Time to stir things up a bit and get some more people coming to enjoy some great roads and good lies. . . I mean stories!

I have my room booked, and it appears JB44 is on board to share the room with me. I'll be there Thursday afternoon. I'm looking forward to seeing everybody again after missing last year's Bash in Marietta.

Anybody interested in me doing a tee shirt? 15 bucks. The R1150R Board gets $3 per shirt of that. No design yet. You just "take what you git and don't pitch a fit"! I will say THIS, they won't be on black tee shirts this time. When I come up with a design, I'll post it here, but don't let that hold you back. If you want one, PM me your size and how many before March 31. I'll get back to you on payment. If you don't make it to the Bash, don't worry, we can discuss shipping later.

Thanks
