how to test the ignition switch

Hi,

What is the best way to test the ignition switch and the light harness?

'03 r1150r: when I turn on the ignition the lights do not come on, nor will they work - turn signals, flashers, no headlight, no tail light. The bike will crank and run, no problem. The brake lights work. It began intermittently, and I have been wiggling wires for a couple of weeks trying to get it to do this 'thing' with out any luck. last weekend I wrapped all of the wires on the front of the bike - took off the gas tank, etc to have good access. When I was done, it lit up and ran. After that it's decided to remain at fault with the lights off. Now the bike is in my garage, tank off, I've unplugged the ignition and lights harness and would like to test them before just replacing something that may or may not be the problem.
