My R has been intermittently not starting when in gear. If fires right up when in neutral. When I try to start it when in gear and it does nothing, of course the clutch is pulled in so I'm able to just kick it up or down into Neutral is fires right up... I guess a sensor or switch somewhere was failing and has now given up the ghost completely.
Any idea what switch/sensor this might be, and how easy is this to replace.
thanks

Try the switch in the clutch lever. It's a bitch to adjust but that was my problem when I had the same trouble.

I'll take a look at that... now you mention it I now remember having to adjust that a couple of years ago, my memory has gone to pot!... takes a tiny Allen wrench, right?

A tiny wrench and a LOT of patience.

Re: Bike Wont Start in Gear
My bike is acting up too. I took my switch out cleaned it, and put it back together. It worked fine but a few days later stopped. I guess is moves out of position a tad and the switch does not engage.
Its not hard to take apart.
From below (just under the cover where the wires lead toward the clutch) there is a little torx set screw. Loosen that and the switch comes out. There is a little metal circular plate that the set screw contacts. It is loose and will come out of the switch. No biggie just keep an eye out for it.
My switch was not really dirty but I lifted one side (its a two piece housing) and sprayed contact cleaner in it. I think its all in the positioning.

Great information, thanks. I should have some time this weekend to have a fiddle with it. Cheers

After you find the little metal disk that will fall out on the floor (be prepared for it - clean the area well before starting the job) - before reinstalling it I'd suggest a touch of Duco(tm) cement to hold it into the switch (it has a tit that sticks into a hole on the switch) for reassembly. That makes it MUCH easier to R&R the next time without having to crawl around on the floor looking for "What was that?"..
