All of the above posts have hit the nail on the head. One more thing to watch are the U joints. Take the drive shaft out and check the U joints for "notchyness". I think the age of the grease has as much or more to do with failure as milage. (and how much grease they managed to actuall get in the cup when they made it). Lube on the rear swing arm pivots should be looked at. At the same time the U joint can be checked. The rear brake caliper should be taken off and the slide pins cleaned up and lubed. This is all fairly easy stuff and there are several discussions on how to do this. Standatd tools for the most part. Another item to check is the clutch slave cylinder. In rereading this one might get the impression of "OH MY G:*&$# what have I gotten myself into! It's not that bad, and lots of help here. PS. I just noticed that this spell checker is fantastic!
This bike handles and rides great! Its comfortable and if you do a little preventitave maintenance will give good service.
