Pack your guns, the 2016 Bash will be in Waco

Post by touchton »

Motorcycle groups in that area of the country need to learn how to act. Instead of shooting each other in the parking lot we were resetting service reminders and syncing throttle bodies. Learning how to perform maintenance on our motorcycles and eating gelato, that's how we roll. Sure, we have the occasional gang member get out of line, but we send them home early. I didn't actually see what Biff's R did, but I'm sure the reason for his early departure was fair and just.

Before we descend on Waco, we need to learn to dress appropriately. We need a 'patch'. I'm sure Phil can work something up for us. Maybe, instead of '1%' we should have '180°' signifying the horizontally opposed twin... Of course our 'patch' will have to be on proper motorcycle protective gear.

Anyone know of a hotel in Waco that's walking distance of a Dairy Queen?

Thad - That's funny, right there! Don't know about the DQ situation but there is a cool Texas Ranger museum in Waco!

I'm in, but...Ill just ride this. I am FAR too lazy to jump off and brawl. Nobody will DARE mess with me at DQ...while I eat my delightful Reese's Blizzard.

Knights Inn is .8 miles from the DQ and a Sonic in Waco. 8 minute walk. And it is only $42/night. :D

Cool! I may be able to make that one.
Really? DQ and Sonic are the culinary delights?

An extra day in Hill Country should be considered, or, do you think Wacco is close enough? It's a purty fair piece. 260 mi to Laekey, closer to Fredricksburg. The Twisted Sisters are between the two.

Not wanting to be obstreperous but what kind of riding/terrain is in Waco? I always thought texas was flat and boring.

not Hill Country. The Twisted Sisters are legendary for a reason. Other roads are very worthwhile also, but 335, 336 and 337 usually rightly hog the limelight. Look at the terrain setting in Google maps. Big Bend is very cool also as is Palo Duro canyon. Good roads are there. I plead ignorance about the Waco area though

and don't tell that to a Texan. I'm not one, but I have to cross Texas whenever I go out west. I don't think I ever minded its size, and the spirit of the place allays boredom, at least for me. I got to cross it a few weeks ago and had to outrun, unsuccessfully, that WEATHER they had. It was anything but boring.

I'm guessing the roads are straighter and flatter than they are in West Virginia.

Hill country is same ballpark but far drier and less wooded. Turns and steepness are similar, but there are also lots of fast sweeper roads. Definitely fun riding and maybe a little looser in feel than WV.
WV has some good stuff. So does Hill Country. Hill Country is worth a trip. And it has a western feel.
Aside: NW ARK is the bomb tho. Second only to California imo

I was hoping this might happen. 2100 miles across the SW is do-able; 2900 miles across the Midwest to Marathon, NY is not in the cards for me.

Kirby - what do you think about Roadster/Rockster Rally 2 for western states? I'm putting a road trip together for this summer, including SoCal, NV, UT. Side trip to Bakersfield to see what's changed since I lived there in the 80s.

Well almost, ha!
I have to visit family in south west texas this year and was curious about the dates for Waco.

:-)

BTW I am up for trying to get something going in the way of a get together out west. Maybe northern Nev! 0r northern Ca? Your area? Maybe should be sorta central to the western states. Lota beemers roamaing these parts for sure.
Think about it.

I'm in, and willing to help coordinate. Newfound free time flexibility has me eagerly anticipating the riding season.

How about we start a new Group Ride topic thread and get some interest and ideas generated?
