2016 BMW Bash

Post by towerworker »

I've not heard anyone volunteer to plan next years bash. And yet I've heard from several say they'd like to see it in Staunton again next year. So unless someone pops up within the next month or so I'll toss my hat in the ring for consideration.

Wayne - I loved the Staunton location for a Bash and would love to return . . . in a few years. Appreciate your offer but I sincerely think one of the appeals of the Bash is the rotating location. Having been Bashmaster a few times, I am not ready to step up at this time however. I think it needs to head more north next year! At least to West Virginia! Or further toward the Yankee contingent even! :D

I agree. Staunton was very nice, but another WV Bash would be good too. In the next couple of years sometime, I'd like to organize another commemorative Bash down in Western NC again. Like Robbinsville. Maybe I can locate Bill Haycock to join us and tell that goat joke again.

I thought that Staunton, Va. was a superb location for the Bash and certainly the most well attended. It was the second time that I have attended an event in that city(HSTA 2009). I always enjoy going to a new location every year if it is possible. No location is absolutely perfect. We have had two events above the Mason-Dixon Line in Pennsylvania (Milford, 2011 & Central, 2008), but I'm not sure that some of our southern members would ride much farther to attend. It was a two day trip to get to Harriman, Tn. and it was not a problem for me. As our attendance swells, a larger venue may be required.

Let's get some ideas, post-up, and be heard.

Just for review:

Hi everyone, im from the great white north Oakville, Ontario, I would love to attend a BB 2016 if a little closer, like the Ohio and Penn locations. From the posts on this site the people sound like they are fantastic to hang out with, I m hoping for a northern type location. Ride safe.

I will put my thinking cap on and see if I can come up with something. I have a few ideas.

I also believe that Marietta was in Yankeeland, but just barely.

For the History Buffs:

The Mason–Dixon line, also called Mason's and Dixon's line, was surveyed between 1763 and 1767 by Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon in the resolution of a border dispute involving Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Delaware in Colonial America. It is still a demarcation line among four U.S. states, forming part of the borders of Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, and West Virginia (originally part of Virginia).

Looking for suggestions for BBXIII

Doc, thanks for the history lesson. I love history. Now, is that Mason Dixon line at that flat part going across the top of Maryland?

For the Bash, I suggest Elkins/ Seneca Rocks area for a pretty good compromise and still be in the good riding zone. How far is that for you?

Yes. That line is the southern border of Pennsylvania. It separates Pa & DE from MD & WV.

Daryl Stamp and I did a recon over to Elkins, WV on Thursday at the last Bash to survey possible sites. Elkins is in the mix, but let's get some more input. Any location is good for me as long as I have the time to get there and return home. Elkins is about 360 miles for me.

I also sent a "ping" out to Jeff with some info.

If we were interested in returning somewhere, how about Fayetteville and New River Gorge? It has a DQ nearby! :D

Anywhere in WV is good!

My goal is always to be in good riding areas, but also have some access to the highways so you can get there and get home at a reasonable rate. I have a couple of ideas, I just need a little time to think and do some recon.

I like Elkins, but there may be a couple of places that would work a little better. More to follow.....

Would be fun to attend one of these. You had me excited about Fayetteville, but I guess you're not talking about the Arkansas variety.

Just found a great venue in a great area, Three Bear Inn, Marathon NY. WWW.THREEBEARINN.COM
Rooms: $45.77 single, $57.07 2 persons 1 bed, $68.37 2 people 2 beds.
Bar, restaurant, & hotel, minutes from I-81 and gas across the street. Pics to follow once I remember how

I second the motion to bring it north of Mason Dixon in 2016, closer for kamanje14 and northern friends. Marathon is a good idea Daryl, lots to explore around the finger lakes region.

I'll say it's north! North of NYC and NJ! Heck of a boring ride from here!

I am hesitate to endorse the Marathon location for the same reason I am reluctant to organize another one around here. Lots of good riding but it makes it a burden for the guys from a longs ways away. Except for the hard guys like Doc! ;) I always thought a more central location was better, although the definition of central can be stretched with a good days ride!

I would probably would make it but my son will likely not be able to get the extra time off.

Just to make it clear, I have no problem heading further north for a Bash! The only one I missed was Milford PA but only because of mechanical problems! I was going to come!

It was 693 miles door to door down to Harriman,Tn in 2010 for BBVII so I fully understand the hardship, but then again, you and I will venture out when the snow flies(BBIV).

The best of intentions for sure Vann, but your "Teutonic Twin" unfortunately spoiled your streak at 7 straight.

I'm in regardless of the location chosen.

Sorry, I haven't been able to do much. I've been way too busy at work, and up at 2 am way too often since my last post. I was thinking about somewhere around Clarksburg, WV or Morgantown, WV. But I haven't done a thing. I may have more energy in a week or two.
