squeaky cable throttle cable distributor
I have an '03 Rockster with ~40k miles. The throttle is stiff and squeaky. I narrowed the squeak down to what is listed in the fiche as the "Cable Distributor." A little reading indicates this is a bit of a bear to replace. I'm happy to do it but before I get knee-deep in throttle cables can this be lubricated? I've read the cables should not be lub'ed but strictly speaking this is not a cable. Anyone have thoughts/advice?
Also, does anyone have a how-to for replacing the box? I can search around and figure it out but if you have a favorite how-to bookmarked it would save me the time.
thanks,
-morgan

Yes, that's the indomitable Chris Harris - the New Hampshire Beemer wrencher newly recovered from his cancer scare, with the very best tutorial available on the web on this topic. Wattaguy...

Thanks, those are very useful. I think my cable distributor just needs some lube. I'll take a look this weekend.

Perhaps you have already searched for CycleRob wisdom regarding the R1150** throttle/idle cable system?

Re: squeaky cable throttle cable distributor
To close the loop on this I disconnected the cables and removed the cable distributor. The cables looked good and the cable distributor seemed fine if just a little dusty. I blew out the distributor with compressed air and lubricated the inside of of the wheel (not the cables!) with silicon spray per the above videos. The throttle is 100 times smoother, probably smoother than it's ever been (I bought the bike with 24k miles). Pro tip: take a photo of a caliper measurement of your throttle cable adjustments at each throttle body and you don't have to re-sync your throttle bodies. Thanks for the help.morgan9283 wrote:peels wrote:assuming adult language doesnt cause you to squirm, heres a 2 part video. ive only watched parts, but it seems thorough.

Re: squeaky cable throttle cable distributor
What a BRILL tip Morgan - take a pic of the cable connections...
Excellent, since I just paid some guy in Chorley, Lancs, home of Chorley Cakes, straight on the hips, to set up the two throttles. My fast-idle lever is more-or-less ineffective, so it's prolly the same dusty bunged-up wheel inside the pesky almost-inaccessible little plastic distributor box in its tin shed welded under the tank / airbox.
Years ago when Chris Harris was aided in his 'shop by the ever-patient Sean, I see him in those videos referred to above, struggling silently to extract the box and the three cables, whilst Chris emotes at length....managing to restrain himself from wrapping them tightly round Chris's neck.

Does anyone on here have a spare throttle cable they want to get rid of? The Lada broke the little plastic bit that fits up against the firewall
