I have a disc lock too but never use it for fear of forgetting to remove it before attempting to ride off. It happens.
I have one of these fitted (http://www.datatool.co.uk/consumer/prod ... ct=system3)
It wasn't cheap but was a prerequisite when I bought the bike in order to get the ridiculously cheap insurance offered by BMW.
As DJ Downunder says, if they want your bike they'll get it but at least with an alarm they will be deterred by the 130db siren.
I'm sure you can source a similar (and much cheaper) product in the U.S.

I've heard so many horror stories about people forgetting to take off their disc locks and trying to ride off...nasty...expencive...embarrassing..
The key to my disc lock has a plastic tube over it.
Every time I use the lock I place the plastic tube over my bike key.
So when I go to use the bike key I remember..Oh..the disc lock.
It's worked every time for me and costs next to nothing.

An old friend of mine used to strap and empty pistol holster on his bike, in plain sight. Figured any potential thief would wonder where the owner and the pistol was and leave it alone!
Some locks come with a flag for your dash or whereever that says 'remove before flight' to remind you to remove it.
As has been said, if they want it bad enough, it's gone.

I wash my bike infrequently - partly out of sheer laziness and partly out of the desire not to attract too much attention to the bike. Well, okay. It's mainly out of laziness. Heck, I hardly wash my Harley. Anyway, I'll use a disk lock if I'm in a city.

That will get your tossed from the fraternity for sure.
The pistol holster...pure ingenuity.
The most stolen bike is the GSX-R, because of the squid crashes (and wheelies destroying motors) creating demand for black market parts.
I rely on my bike being worthless to a chop shop, and keeping the insurance up. BMW guys are too efficient to accept a stolen part.
Else, how can they get their service book stamped?
Putting a stolen part in a pristine self-owned BMW would keep a lot of us up at night. Cause we know that at the next gathering, someone somewhere will know where that part came from. It's too small a world.

Freedom is dangerous. Those in power that steal freedom are more dangerous.

I have a disk lock that has a motion senor built into the unit. If the lock moves in the slightest, the disk lock makes a VERY loud noise. It scares that crap out of me every time it goes off.DJ Downunder wrote:I've heard so many horror stories about people forgetting to take off their disc locks and trying to ride off...nasty...expencive...embarrassing..
