Scotty,

Hope the cascading has subsided.

My thoughts are that 1st we need to fill every available room. Keeping faith with your planning and the proprietors' good efforts on our behalf.

But as of this morning, I am no longer clear what that means. Maybe a review of the rooms/beds/locations and current assignments is in order. Not required, but could help clarify the situation.

I remain totally flexible. Get everyone else settled, then let me know what's left.

Thanks for the effort - as you know it is much work and frustration.

Personally I like MikeCam's offer to buy the motel. I bet we could get the breakfast for free then!

Don't know 'bout his cooking though.

If possible, I would like a room for myself, within walking distance of the bash, in that order. Bathroom facilities make no difference to me. The reason I ask for the room on my own, is that I do not want to "treat" any of you to a front row seat for my snoring. Especially after the microbrew Scotty is threatening us with. That said, if someone wants to take a chance, I'm willing to share a room.

hey guys..sorry for being MIA.

i have the secondary lodging acquired!!! I have the fishing creek lodge all reserved. the 4 guys who were displaced can take these rooms. if someone wants to stay at the Central Park Hotel, I'll give up my room and go to the overflow.

I tried sending pm's to the 4 guys but the messages are still in my outbox.

so, we're all set. this place is 4/10 mile down the road. the only thing is that there are 2 bathrooms for the 5 rooms. rates are about the same as the other place. if anything, a few dollars less.

what sucks is that this could have housed more people and served as a true overflow, not just a remedy to a sh!tty roadblock!

have no fear, scottybooj is here!

oh, and ask tony how much help he gave me with my tent when the rain hit. :doubt:

Overflow Accomodations

Fishing Creek Lodge
889 Central Road
Benton, Pa 17814
(570) 925-5991
Host: Karen

Just .4 miles (within walking distance) south of the Central Park Hotel. I have also stayed here a few times and have been very comfortable. There is a large living room and open kitchen on the first floor with four bedrooms and 2 full baths upstairs. A large bedroom is on the third floor. There is a small convenience store in the structure, but with limited hours. The proprietress does not live on site.

The parking is ample, uncovered, and off-street, but graveled. Put something under your kickstand. Do not park near the dumpster or leave any food on your bike. This is bear country!

Approach Routes:

This may be a feeble attempt to “herd cats”, but I will do my best. Many of us will simply plug the address for the Central Park Hotel into our GPS units, Google the route, or pull out the old paper map and plot a course to get to Bash Headquarters. Most of the time it will give you most direct route especially if you are strapped for time and/or coming from a distance away. If I may make a suggestion, the easiest way to get to the CPH is by plotting a course to exit 256 off Interstate 80 and taking Pa 93 Northwest for about 3.8 miles.

Right turn onto Pa 239 (this is a 24 mile leg).

Follow Pa 239 crossing the Susquehanna River into Shickshinny.

Continue on Pa 239 to Benton. REFUEL IN BENTON

Make a right onto Pa 487 and head North for about 3.6 miles

At Coles Creek, turn left onto County Route 4049. Ride 3.1 miles

At the stop sign, cross straight over Pa 118 onto Central Road

The FISHING CREEK LODGE is 1.4 miles up on the left.

The CENTRAL PARK HOTEL is about .4 miles further up on your right at the corner.

The above route will work well if you are coming from the East on Interstate 80 or from the North or South on Interstate 81(Interstate 81 is just 3.7 miles east of Exit 256, I80). It will also give you a chance to savor the local area directly off of the interstate highway system and keep you out of the congested hubs of some of the cities.

If you are coming from the West, I would slide in on Interstate 80 and take Exit 215 and head East on Pa 254 for 16.1 miles.

Make a left onto Pa 42 @ Millville.

Continue North on Pa 42 for 9.5 miles.

Then make a right onto Pa 118 @ Biggertown. REFUEL HERE

Take Pa 118 East for 7.9 miles and turn left onto County Route 4049. (Central Road)

Follow Central Road to the Lodge (1.4 miles) or Hotel (.4 miles beyond).

Jim,

I love you.

Your directions are exactly what a person from (Select One --- the North, New Jersey, above the Mason-Dixon Line, Yankees, damn Yankees, and similar) would give.

I get it.

(I don't use smilies, but insert several here)

Check your inbox for a PM. I'm not sure that PM's are working right now. Could you confirm you got it (them?)

Re: L'Beakster Bash: Recon Report

Post by STDocLizard1 »

The Recon Report from the Endless Mountains will be delayed until the weather breaks. Some of the higher elevations are impassable. We had to abort the mission and return to base on this approach to an overlook. Keep the faith; Spring is arrives on March 20th.

That is all.

Re: L'Beakster Bash May 2008 Grand Canyon Route

Post by STDocLizard1 »

This is the first of four suggested routes for the May Bash. Fire up your GPS, follow along with your favorite map program, or pull out the ancient paper variety. I tried to keep this as simple as possible. I am using the main road rule: "stay on course until you are told to change." Feel free to improvise to your own liking. Nothing is written in stone.

GRAND CANYON LOOP----------------------------LEG----------------ACCUM

SOUTH ONTO CENTRAL ROAD-----------------1.8 MILES

RIGHT ONTO PA 118----------------------------3.6 MILES-----------5.4 MILES

RIGHT ONTO PA 239----------------------------4.8 MILES----------10.2 MILES

STRAIGHT ONTO PA 42-------------------------4.6 MILES----------14.8 MILES

RIGHT ONTO US 220---------------------------10.3 MILES----------25.1 MILES

LEFT ONTO PA 154-----------------------------31.4 MILES----------56.5 MILES

LEFT ONTO PA 414-----------------------------26.9 MILES----------83.4 MILES

STRAIGHT ONTO PA 287----------------------11.7 MILES-----------95.1 MILES

LEFT ONTO PA 660----------------------------10.6 MILES----------105.7 MILES

FOLLOW SIGNS TO GRAND CANYON & VISITORS CENTER

DEPART ON PA 660 IN REVERSE--------------10.6 MILES----------116.3 MILES

If hungry; WELLSBORO DINER
19 MAIN ST.
TAKE PA 660 TO MAIN ST. Back track after lunch to PA 287 S

RIGHT (south) ONTO PA 287------------------11.7 MILES---------128.0 MILES

RIGHT ONTO PA 414---------------------------16.9 MILES---------144.9 MILES

392 SLATE RUN ROAD
SLATE RUN, PA It is just across the River (Pine Creek)

TAKE PA 414 SOUTH----------------------------15.6 MILES--------160.5 MILES

RIGHT ONTO PA 287----------------------------11.8 MILES--------184.1 MILES
