K panniers on a R

Post by Johan_SA »

In South Africa new panniers are very expensive and good secondhand panniers for the R is scarce and also pricey. I managed to lockate a good set of panniers from a K1200GT at a very good price. Then the fun began. I had to modify the brackets of the rear footpegs. It was not s difficult as I expected it to be and with the help of a friend, Piet (pr. "Pete") we manufactured both brackets at home. The only thing that we could not do was to weld aluminum (aluminium) and for that I took the brackets to an engineering firm.

If I had, had access to a milling machine, I would've made the brackets resemble the original ones even more. Well perhaps I'll still do it some time in the future.

For those mebers who can perhaps get K panniers at a bargain price - know that you can buy them and use them.
