I have removed the carbon canister, because i had an overflow of raw gas (once you have gas going through it, they are pretty much shot).
The wet charcoal caused an overly rich condition in just the left jug, which was causing my bike to vibrate.

I did not set out to remove the cc, but now that it's gone I will use the location for a Stebel horn.

My canister was removed to allow access to the adjusters on my Hyperpro shock.. and darn it if a Stebel horn wouldn't fit right in the canister bracket with a bit of drilling.

Haven't done it yet since I'm looking for the connector to go into the wiring harness in place of the stock horn.. I don't like hacking up wiring harnesses (even though I have a complete spare I got off ebay..) It's on my round-2-it list..

So far I've had no luck finding a source (and I even got a horn off a wreck to see if I could remove/reuse the connector - no dice..)

If anyone has any ideas where to look.. (BMW does have "repair" kits and connectors - trick is knowing what is what, which I don't know..) pass the idea along.

My cannister is reposing happily in my motorcycle junk box.
In its place is a Stebel compact air horn.
I didn't need no stinkin' connectors, since I wired the horn from a fuse block and used my own horn button, as posted elsewhere.
Works like a charm to STOP wandering cagers like right NOW.

Note that they state the air-horn is too "large" for our bikes. I suspect that using the Stebel Nautilus horn will require using a relay to power it - it may draw too much current and the ZFE may shut it off (anyone done this?) - if so - you have to get your own relay unless I can source a "kit" of some sorts.. (mebbe EasternBeaver..)

OK - since I suspect shipping will be a big part of ordering this - I need a count of how many people want one?

I'm guessing the exchange rate is someplace around 2:1 (http://www.xe.com/ucc/) - so they're gonna cost $24 + share of shipping each. Figure - $30 tops I'd guess for just the bits from Nippy Norm.. any relay will cost more..

One additional note - on Nippy's webside - it lists US shipping as being 12 UKP ($24) - so if we get ALL of them shipped for that - figure at 4 of them - $6 each. BUT - the site also mentions a 15% discount for non-UK orders since we wouldn't be charged VAT, so that lowers the unit price a bit.

Once I get the numbers back from Nippy I'll pass them along, but in the meantime, I need a head count of who wants one..

Here's the "plug N play" wiring kit for the Stebel Nautilus airhorn. I have the horn and the kit, I'm just waiting for warmer weather to test on my DR B4 I try it on the R12R.

I'll answer a bunch at once..

1 - no need to send $$ now. I don't know what the final price will be. Nippy wrote back to me and quoted 20 UKP for shipping 4 kits - that's about $40, or $10 per kit. What he didn't tell me is if the 15% no-VAT discount applies. I'm also considering contacting the BMW dealer (Hermy's) who found the "repair connector" for the GPS wiring harness connection - since the kit Nippy is selling looks just like a BMW repair connector kit - right down to the yellow wires. I want to see if Hermy's can get it cheaper here in the US.

2 - The plug-n-play from Twisted Throttle isn't quite what I'd consider plug and play. It still requires hacking some sort of connection to the factory wiring harness horn connection. They mention using a push on connector tie-wrapped in place.. on something I consider critical - I would be uncomfortable with that.

3 - As far as a relay setup - the one from Twisted Throttle looks good if a bit expensive. I was hoping to get Eastern Beaver to make up one for a bit less $$ that is made specifically for the R1200R if I give him dimensions.

That's where I am at the moment on it.. as it evolves I'll keep everyone up to date.

A small snag appeared over the weekend

I was rummaging through my horn collection (yeah - like windshields, you can never have too many horns..) and I found, strangely enough, that I have a FIAMM snail-type horn with a pig-tail wired connector soldered to the horn terminals. The connector is the same pattern as the one on the stock BMW horn - so the wiring harness plugs right into it.

For the life of me I can't remember where I got it.. but it offers me exactly what I want - a replacement horn that will plug into the stock wiring harness, and a way to add a relay for a STREBEL air-horn. I sort of like both horns - since the air-horn has a very slight delay when you press the button (better with the Strebel with the attached compressor than old ones with remote compressors) while the system builds up pressure. I can tap off the connections on this horn (I've been soldering things for the past 50+ years) with two leads to power the coil on the Strebel relay..

I'm going to take a photo of the horn/harness - and perhaps someone will have a clue where I found this (it looks brand new, but I know I didn't order it from BMW.. getting old is a bitch sometimes..) Even stranger - the horn says on it "Made in USA".. and it's a FIAMM. Go figure. I'll see if I can track it down by the FIAMM PN on it.
