Hungry Mother (VA) - August 14-16, 2009
Hungry Mother 6 will be based at the Loop C campground in Hungry Mother State Park, which is on VA-16 just north of Marion, VA. As we have done in recent years, we have already reserved the entire campground.
Loop C is a beautiful, spacious, heavily-wooded campground with large tent sites that have wood tent platforms and picnic tables. Each year, the Hungry Mother ride has been a most enjoyable weekend of great camping fun and even greater riding on the roads that traverse the steep ridges and narrow valleys of southwest Virginia. For more information, check the following links and the terrain view in Google Maps.

Hungry Mother State Park information:
http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state_parks/hun.shtml
There are 10 tent sites in Loop C. Each one will be made available to the first riders to reimburse me for a site. Riders will choose their site that weekend on a first come, first choice basis. It should be noted here that there is not a bad campsite in Loop C. The last rider to arrive will get a great site and lots of tent erection suggestions.
EDIT: All 10 sites are now paid. However, do not let that stop you from coming. It is very easy to put more than one tent on any of the sites; there is plenty of room. Just work it out with someone in the group.
To claim your reserved campsite, please send $42 to me at PayPal
machew01 "at" yahoo.com OR
If you want to pay by check, send me a PM or email, and I'll provide my mailing address. The following list will be updated as I receive payments. Each site will accommodate 2 tents. In the likely event that more than 11 riders want to attend, the newer people can contact the people on this list and arrange to share a site. Any questions?

Possible mystery attendee?! Yes, it looks like it's going to happen!

Now is the time to plan....

Re: Hungry Mother (VA) - August 14-16, 2009
I'm actually considering it....... I'll have to stay in a motel. Is there a Dairy Queen close by?

Judging from what the scales said today, I am personally relieved there is no Dairy Queen nearby. Having one so convenient to the Bash was deadly!
But it sure was good while it lasted!

One closer:

And the motel to stay at is the one where JB44 stayed when he dropped his bike and broke the clutch lever. I forget the name but its very convenient to everything there in Marion and right on the main beat....
Anyone got a name?

I'm ready. I hated to miss the bash but too much going on this past weekend. I am ready for some serious riding and camping.
Was in Chantilly today teaching a class and leaving in the am for SC for another one. I need some relaxation! (although I am very grateful to be busy working)

If you fail to attend HMSP Rain Ride two years in a row, you lose your Mid-Atlantic Beakster Membership card and your Biker's Dozen phone list.

It's across the street from the Econolodge. I only stayed there because it was cheap. $29. a night with the coupon I picked up at the VA Welcome Station on the interstate.
The Econlodge is much nicer... I went there for breakfast.
...and Phil, you really didn't have to bring up my dumping the bike...
If Triumphs are still welcome, I like to attend...without breaking anything this time.

Re: Hungry Mother (VA) - August 14-16, 2009
Sorry.
It wasn't really a "dump". More like a, let's see, a standing topple. That's it. A standing topple. Didn't the wind have something to do with it?

Re: Hungry Mother (VA) - August 14-16, 2009
Guys! We need a few more Hungry Mother campers to belly up to the bar here and secure your sites. We really don't want to end up with "outsiders" in the camping loop "C" with us those two nights. Once we have those 11 sites secured, anyone can bring along other riders to help split the costs, but it is very nice to have the whole place to ourselves!
