BMW R1200R R1150R/T F800 K1200R R1100R/T R1250R RnineT Message Board

hi,I was wondering if any of you guys can give me some points in my pickle i have with decision.On oct.19 th I have totaled my beloved r 1150r(not my fault) and since there is now place for new bike I have consider two options.
opt.1 is k1200r,2006,11000 mi,esa,abs,h.grips.sport panniers,ext.warranty and all around 10 000 on accessories all sorts
opt.2 is r1200r,2007 or 08,8000 mi,warranty,sport shield,abs,h.grips and that about all
Now I dont know what problems these bikes have but I really would like to have as much opinions on subject as possible.I am hoping for somewhat speedy response because time is now a essence,the deal on either have to be make in couple days.Thank you so much for your help in advance.Mark

Probably would have gotten a faster response in the R1200R forum, there's a lot more people there.

They are two different beasts. The R1200R is a faster, lighter, but ultimately very similar in feel to your R1150R. The K1200R is longer, heavier, and faster than the R1200R. Both are plenty quick on the street, both can tour, and both are reasonably comfortable. Both are good choices, the decision is if you like the raw power and high RPM whine of the K, or torque of the R.

Hi Mark, I traded my K1200R on a R1200R 18 months ago for the one simple reason that the head down riding position agravated my back and neck. I ride frequent 500 - 700k days with the odd 1000k thrown in. For example, last weekend Friday to Sunday did 2600k with 1000k on Saturday and the R1200R and my body handled with no problems. For long fast rides the K1200R is a up there with any other sports bike except perhaps in tight twisties. The only area where the R1200R will not keep up with the K1200R is in the out right acceleration and speed between the corners! The seat on the K is not conducive to several high K days in a row but the R seat is great. If camp touring the panniers on the R are very wide and care is needed when filtering. If not camping I just use a BMW 32 litre soft bag - which fits both bikes if set up.
On reflection if the R1200R you are looking at had the same electronics etc as the K1200R has I would go for the R!

Check out the service costs for each too. This may not matter to you, but I suspect the R is much lower given the complexity of the K's valve adjustments, and the simplicity of the R's. That is what steered me to the new boxer.

Hi Mark,
Did you get an R? I have had one for about a year. I really enjoy it. I did though, test drive an 06 K1200R while my bike was in for service. I have to say that I was very impressed with the K. I am going back into the dealership on Monday. I will take the K out for awhile again. I was wondering, what your final decision was between the two after having the R1150R.
