49 more days now....And it's feeling more like spring every day.

I..errr...I mean THAT GUY.. has about a dozen shirt orders for the Bash Tee shirt. The deadline is next Wednesday, the 31st, to place your requests for size and color. (See other thread) Just in case there are some who failed to see the tee shirt "stuff", or decide they want one once we get there, I'm bringing along a few extras in XL size and different colors. These are the thick 6.1 oz. Gildan short sleeve tee shirts 100% cotton pre-shrunk polyunsaturated...no pocket. Think about it! #-o

Just for everyone's trip planning purposes, the rock slide that happened on the Tennessee side of Deal's Gap, aka The Dragon, aka US 129, has closed the road until at least July according to the Tennessee DOT. Local news showed the roadblocks at the TN line of 129, meaning only the 3 miles in NC are open.

Also they interviewed some local businesses about the impact. The store at the gap has already laid off 26 of 30 employees! Motels and businesses all through the area will feel the impact. Not only motorcyclists but a variety of sports cars clubs are there every weekend. Part of the reason I am usually not!

If anyone had travel plans through there, check out Cherohala Skyway instead. If you interested in other, lesser known routes through the area, shoot me a PM.

Looking forward to the Bash!

Speaking of rock slides, I have a funny/scary story about a rock slide in a coal mine in the cabwaylingo state forest. <teaser>

Link to Tennessee DOT website about rock slides that may have an impact on Bashers...
http://www.tdot.state.tn.us/rockslideinfo.htm

and a map showing where they are currently:

http://www.tailofthedragon.com/maps/SlidesMap.jpg

US 64 will reopen April 16.
US 40 should reopen at least one lane by the end of April, according to NC DOT:
https://apps.dot.state.nc.us/pio/releas ... spx?r=3484

Wish I could make it, but duty calls. Ya'll have fun.

Guys, and gal, who ordered tee shirts from that guy, don't forget to bring the extra $10 cash for him. He takes only small unmarked bills.

Doug, PM me your snail mail addy and I'll post yours to you as soon as they're printed...on the house. That guy told me that Doug gets a free shot.

'that guy' can turn a $10 dollar bill into three $5 dollar bills somehow. I don't know if it's magic or superior intelligence.

Anybody else getting antsy for a ride to Tennessee?
Had some good weather here lately; taking the bike in for break-in service next Sat.
Will be ready to roll when the time comes; only 3 gas stops to get there.

Some news on The Dragon for all of you that are interested. I received some information today that after a meeting of Tennessee DOT officials with various business folks from both sides of the border, US 129 will be opened from the NC to the point of the rock slide soon. Then you will have to turn around and ride it back! The slide is apparently well past the 'good' parts of the road. Word is a single lane will be opened past the slide in a few weeks also, allowing through traffic.

Apparently some of the resorts and motels were receiving cancellations from all over the world! Some of the local businesses dependent on the draw of the road were probably not going to survive the year if the road didn't open.

While making this post, I found confirmation on the Dealsgap website. TN DOT will have have a gate installed and open the road from 8 AM to 8 PM.

With a gate, Tenn DOT can start charging admission. From a public highway to an amusement ride. Wait. It already is.

I'm a little over 3 hours away, so I'll check it out with a "go-see" ride there before the BASH. I need to fully scuff the tires in anyway. Hey, anybody . . . Boxer, you wanna make a day trip real soon?
