Resurrecting an old thread!

After this discussion, my night riding tapered off. When I did ride at night, the light pipe effect was pretty minor and I learned to ignore it.

Then the headlight picked up a rock, and I got a Cee Bailey's guard. Tonight I had to ferry the bike across town at night. The headlight guard increases the pickup of light from headlamp to windscreen a lot - I found the increased light collection almost unbearable, and completely distracting. It's not clear that the light collection is light-piping at the edge, or something more diffuse that occurs because the headlight guard provides a different offer of light upwards into the screen. Still, it's not good.

Pulling the headlight guard off when I ride (rarely) at night is unattractive, but possible. Still, I never got to O'Reilly's to look for edging. I'll go now.
