2011 Hungry Mother Rain Ride

Post by DSKYZD »

Another super shindig goes down in the history books. Phenomenal turnout, 18 or more, anyone know an exact number? There were about 16 of us that camped.
I only took this one picture all weekend:

I think we needed a:
18.George
and
19.Ringo
to make that complete.

Great times; I only took pictures of the "lawn tractor with a V8" at Shady Valley.

Here is a link to my edited pictures. Boxer asked for riding pictures and I risked life and limb to deliver! Click on the first shot to start a slideshow.

Here's the Hungry Mother 2011 slideshow. I wasn't coming up with ANYTHING for a music selection!...and our buddy Brian (DSKYSD) emailed me a suggestion. Of course it fits perfectly considering our prior conversations and a late night HM discussion, spiced with liqour and beers. I don't think I have ever witnessed a certain two members of our group so inebriated. But it was fun to watch and listen to them.

Another great slideshow, Phil. I liked the flower photo. I also liked being able to recognize some of those roads and places. I'd love to go back one day and ride there again. Thanks for posting.

Two questions:

What is the story behind this?

And is that a tent tube on the back of the bike?

That is a riding lawn mower with a V-8 auto engine running it. It sets out front of the Shady Valley store. Not sure if it really runs or is just a static display.

That white plastic pipe section on the back of my bike is how I decided to carry my tools and air pump, rags, tape, etc. I got tired of lugging that stuff around inside the cases and getting in the way of things I needed at just about every stop. It's strapped on pretty good with BIG white plastic wire ties. If I need the tools I can get at'em without removing anything from the bike.

Thank you for the slideshow compliment. It was a group effort. Brian sent me the music. A lot of the pics are from Vann and others...and previous Hungry Mother visits. I've been meaning to ask you, what filter you use to get the crisp bright look in your pics..or is that a Photoshop enhancement. I love how your pics just snap, crackle and pop. I think it's time I invested in a couple of general filters for my little Olympus SLR.

Thanks for the explanations. Nice looking bike you have now too.

Thank you for your kind comment. I don't use Photoshop, and the only lens filters I use with my DSLR are UV Haze filters, mostly as lens protectors because I'm often clumsy, and sometimes in harsh environments where my lenses could easily be damaged by a blow to the glass. Some argue that a filter will detract from the quality of a photo because they inhibit the lens to do it's work. That sounds feasible, but a higher end filter is still cheaper for me to replace than a lens, so I keep them on all the time. I always shoot in RAW format and then use Lightroom to spit them out as jpegs for posting. Other than that, I think I just get lucky and also happen to be in a lot of pretty areas throughout the year.

Phil - I watched this at work without the music (to be discreet) and neglected to give you a thank you. Rewatching the slide show with the music was great! Good use of the photos and nice choice of music!

Apparently a little scotch goes a long way when you aren't used to it!

But we had a good time, didn't we?
