R1100RT vs R1150RT

Post by Xdot »

I'm probably going to transition from my R1150R to an RT. I hate to do it but my poor ears just can't take the wind noise anymore. I have no idea why but it is simply reality. I have a large Parabellum Super Tour windscreen on the bike, Tanks Wings, and I wear ear plugs, but the buffeting is just intolerable.

Kids in college pretty much forbids an R1200. I've ridden an R1150RT and know it is whisper quiet. I've found a very nice R1100RT that is for sale with ABS, heated grips, luggage, etc. It's a 1999 model. I'm just hesitant to go 'backwards'. How does the R1100 stack up to the R1150? I've heard the earlier ABS was actually better. How about other factors like EFI, clutch, final drive, and misc?

Thanks much, fellas.

Interested in this question as I also have seen a very nice 1100rt. Currently have an 03 1150r which I like but want an rt and this one is within my budget.

For my 02c worth....I have owned an1100RT (bought new by choice even though the 1150RT's were out), 3 Rocksters (1150R's in drag). I now have another, an R1100R and I paid almost as much as I would have to get an 1150R...by choice. I never liked the "electric servo" ABS, the extra weight or the styling. YMMV.

I ride 2001 RTP1100 converted to 2 seater and love it.
I know this is a naked bike forum but here is my 2 cents worth.
This is my 9th bike, 2cnd BMW and I always bought bikes with fairings for a reason:
on the sportbikes, wind buffeting. On this RTP same thing .
But this bike has elec windshield, heated grips, heat thru dash if u like.
In the summer, i just run with windshield down and winter up and grips on heat.
The tops of my knees still get cold but the inevitable ball of rolling cold air on my crotch is gone, ahhh.
To each his own, but I love the fairings. And yes, prolonged ear noise {buffeting} will lead to early hearing loss.
My bike is quiet but I still wear ear plugs and at 57 yrs old , still have perfect hearing, except when my wife talks.

I was in the same situation . I have a 1997 r1100r that i love for the back country roads , but wanted something with more wind protection for the superslab . I ended up with a 2000 r1100rt and am happy with the decision . I also wanted to stay away from the interlocked breaks , Not that there is anything wrong with them just a personal preference and i am used to the ABS thats on my 1997r1100r . So to stay in my price range i had to go older instead of newer .
good luck

Six speed versus five! That extra gear is all the difference in the world.
Safe and happy holidays to all.
