Stoked new owner of a 2004 R1150R!

Post by jcf66 »

My name is Jeff and I've been in the market for a good used motorcycle for a long time after selling my Bonneville a couple years ago. Although I found numerous bikes to purchase and came close on a couple, something just never felt right about them so I waited....and waited....and waited. I have always secretly wanted a R-series BMW, but could never find one near Omaha. Low and behold, I was surfing Craigslist one day a few weeks ago and wouldn't you know there was a beautiful silver 2004 R1150R! Two weeks later, it is now sitting in my garage!

Love the bike so far. It is in immaculate condition with 26,000 miles. The previous owner took very good care of it and gave me the complete maintenance history. About the only issue I have with it is pegs seem a little too high, but the internet is ripe with aftermarket lowering kits so I'll get one soon. The only other drawback I can see is that it didn't have hard cases. Those are probably out of reach financially for a while, so I'll be in the market for a good tank and tail bag.

Anyway - just thought I'd reach out to the community and say hello. I look forward to putting some serious miles on this beauty over the next few years.

Posting pictures is not intuitive - I'll try to figure it out when I have more time. It appears as if you cannot add them from your computer, you must instead link to a photo sharing website?

That's right.
I use Photobucket http://s782.photobucket.com/ but there are others.

Nice purchase. Welcome aboard.
I joined this board when I bought my 2004 new in August 2003.

Hello. Enjoy the bike. I have a, '02 R, purchased 2 years ago, and she runs great despite being a guinea pig for my wrenching skills.

FYI I have used soft saddle bags that I would be happy to unload for an affordable amount if you're interested. Will hold you over until hard cases (which I just purchased last season through this forum - they're great!) become attainable for you.

I have a set of soft bags I want to install but they just barely hit the exhaust. How did you keep them off the muffler?

I bought an '04 R1150R myself last July and have been having a great time on it. Went for a ride just today - it was 79 degrees here in New York, and I couldn't resist. It only had 950 miles when I bought it, and I've put another 1200 since July. I love the way the bike accelerates and takes turns, though I wish either the seat sat a couple inches lower or my legs were a couple inches longer.

I did not have to modify the exhaust. I guess the bags were small enough that they cleared it. once I purchased the hard bags, I did end up removing the muffler and replacing it with an exhaust tip. I like the look and sound more now.

there are lots of threads on this forum about seat height adjustment. seems to be a common problem. My bike came with a Sargent seat which I love.
