Travels with Blanche DuBois: Running with the Bulls

There's an old maxim that it's not the destination but the ride.
Sometimes the opposite is true: It's the destination, the ride being a means to an end.
My destination this past weekend was my hometown's homage to San Fermin and the attendant encierro, or the Running of the Bulls.
Kicking off at 8am Saturday, the object is to not get gored by the "bulls," though for this running, the goring involves not horns, but bats. No, not talking about the flying rodents, but wiffle ball bats wielded by roller skating girls of the roller derbies world wide, those bats are the objects of avoidance.

Or not.

Having been swatted quite a few times along the route, I can say that not all swats are created equal, some are actually quite "creative," or soft or mildly stinging, or done with a certain wrist action that makes you want to, well, if not linger, Thank You M'am, May I have Another...
