Starting problems

Hi All
HELP
Just finished complete rebuild on a r1100rt with secondhand low mileage engine. Engine started fine Balanced carbs at tickover all good. Then things changed would not tickover and was difficult to start. Will fire easily but very reluctant to keep going.
New fuel pump filter etc seems to have a good spark Thottle position unit seem fine. Everything seems to check out OK but can't understand the reason for the change.
Anybody any suggestion or things to check?
