The end of winter freshening
The first clue that somthing was amiss was my heated jacket liner wasn't getting hot. The trouble shooting lead me to the BMW style connector that goes from an outlet to my tank bag. The connector was not sealed in a perment way, but did have a grommet at the wire entrance. Inside the screw terminals were corroded. This passed a continuity check but would not let enough current through to work the jacket liner. Where I live in the southwest some genius thought the liquid road deicer was a good idea. The stuff turns to a fine mist with traffic and finds its way into interesting places. The turn signal bulb connectors were also corroded. I suspect anyplace that uses salt or one of the other chlorides on the roads will cause corrosion problems. The solution is to clean the contacts and cover with a corrosion inhibiting grease or a dielectrict grease. And don't be afraid to look at ANY unprotected metal from time to time. Spring cleanup will get a little more detailed.
