Hello
In the next few weeks, I'll be getting some new Wilbers that will lower my 2004 R1150R by about 30 cm. I need to find a welder who can modify the side stand and hopefully the center stand to accommodate the new height. Not sure I will be able to find a bike-savvy welder so if any of you folks have any tips to pass on to the welder about the best way to go about this -- figuring out the new length, adjusting the angle of the foot, that sort of thing -- I would appreciate it. I am also thinking I will need new springs for the side stand. Any idea on where to get shorter springs and if figuring out spring length will be trial and error or can you determine it based on how much the side stand was shortened,
Any if anyone can recommend a welder in the Sacramento, CA, area, so much the better.
Thank you.
Clint

Hi Clint,
I can't help with your questions, but this is the R1200R board; you might speak to a more focused audience on the R1150R board: viewforum.php?f=2.

Re: Side stand mods after lowering my R1150R
The stock side stand being so short, I'd do the shocks first, then see how it works. Modify if needed. I ended up modifying an Illium Works sidestand pad expander by sandwiching a 3/4" piece of wood between the sidestand base, and the Illium Works base. I love the result. I really hated the acute lean with the stock stand, especially when loaded for travel.
Re: Side stand mods after lowering my R1150R
As mentioned, install the short shocks and test side- and center-stand first.
It's possible the side-stand might be modified with a slight bend.
Center-stand feet are not precision pieces, and the stand looks to be easily-welded mild steel. Trimming an inch from each leg and welding on feet should be simple.
