Electrical Connectors under seat

Post by Eagle6 »

Can anyone identify the 3 electrical connectors and confirm it would be OK to move them to the new position as I want some room to mount an Autocom and Kenwood radio.

We're traveling, and I don't have access to my '07, but:

"1" is the Diagnostic Connector. It must be available to plug in the dealer's computer or a GS-911 dongle.

"2" I don't know. It looks as though something is connected to the wires, and that something passes through the plastic inner fender; perhaps this is the electrical feed to the tail/brake/plate light.

"3" appears to be an unused connector; there's nothing plugged into it. Some models have under-seat boxes that run optional functions, such as an alarm and the tire pressure monitor. On my bike, there were also plastic posts with inset threaded metal sleeves, on which those little boxes were mounted. My bike didn't have those accessories, I wasn't going to get them, and I wanted the space so I hacksawed the posts off.

So: You can certainly move the connectors, but you'll want to maintain the electrical connections to the Diagnostic Connector and what I think is the tail light wiring.

David nailed it - but #2 really has me puzzled. Is it for some auxiliary lighting in the rear perhaps required in the UK? If you look under the plastic liner - does it hook up with something - and where might that go?

#2 is fitted into a dummy mount on the inner guard.
Photo shows internals and mount.

Very interesting connector. Looks like one made for a wedge-base bulb. Can't imagine the purpose of it.. The brown wire going to it is ground - wonder what a voltmeter across it would show?
