For closure and proclivity:

Got my ABS back. They had it exactly for the advertised time, 5 business days. It's fixed, works, a clean job. Removing it was more than I expected. I reassembled the bike in two leisurely sessions. All in all I estimate I spent 8 hours total including trips to the PC to look up stuff. This is the first time and I hope the last time I have to do this.

The deal with the set screws to reattach the cover looks solid. I don't think one could conveniently service the unit without taking it out (speculated such thing in a post higher up). At any rate, tampering with the unit would void the warranty. The set screws are lacquered. The 5 year warranty on the Module Master repair does not transfer in case of a sale. It only applies to the original purchaser, in this case me. I was surprised to read that.
