Rockster is acting up??

Post by Bimmerboy68 »

Hello, I bought this 2004 Rockster a year ago with 19,000 miles. It now has 23,000 miles. It ran fine until last weekend. While riding in 6 gear at 55 mph, I gave it gas (wide open throttle), the bike sped up like normal then all of the sudden the rpm's went to redline, I could smell the clutch burning. Can the clutch be going out this soon?

Clutch slip. Could be a few causes, especially if some parts are still original (time can affect some parts as well as wear).

How mechanically inclined are you?

Doing the work is fairly simple, (for a confident mechanic), but it's time consuming and 'appears' drastic as a lot of stuff has to come off the bike to get into the clutch.

Well, finally got the clutch slave cylinder off and pink fluid poured out, looks like I will be tearing it down to the clutch!
