OBD2 v 911

I've ordered a WiFi ODB2 diagnostic tool that connects to various Android and iPhone apps and a lot of people on other BMW motorcycle forums seem to see them as a gimmick and not a good alternative to the 911 tool.
Can anyone give me the real differences between these seemingly comparable tools?

There are a multitude of them to choose from. The link below is a Youtube video of one (a more BMW specific app) which is using a cell phone app.
The devices are around £10-20 and the apps are mostly free

Who knows? "Reset Service Interval" is clear enough, as is "Also read/erase fault codes." But I have no experience with this type of device, and don't know if it can address all the fault codes available within the BMW system, and also don't know if it does the other stuff done by a GS911 — view live sensor values, conduct component output tests, adaption reset & relearn, basic coding, ABS bleed test, and others. Two of these (stepper adaption, and the ABS bleed function) have been very useful for my '07 Hexhead.

According to the website it does just about everything you listed including the ABS bleed function.
I'll post more when I have had chance to use it.

I'm curious to know your results. I have an 08 model, so I just have the gs911 but I have bought a obdii dongle from my cars and for a triumph bonneville. I have noticed that you have to watch reviews because some of the cheaper readers can mess with the ecu if they aren't built incorrectly. I opted for a more expensive version, like $80 from a reputable company just because I figured the extra $50 or so would ensure that I wasn't dealing with some of the issues that I have read about. All the free reader apps though were crap. I ended up buying one for consistency and real time value monitoring. I haven't dealt with the BMW specific ones in that video, but just my experience with the car stuff and triumph. I am new to using these though, so some things may be my ignorance.

It appears the adaptor cable is available from various sources for around 29Euro.. and the dongle just has to be ELM compatible. I have an ELM compatible one arriving today ($10/Amazon-Prime deal) - but don't have the cable. Software is downloadable, but free version is likely limited... it appears the paid version is needed to really use it.
Interesting - have to try to keep on top of this. I'll spend some time seeing if there is a US seller of the adaptor cables yet..
